My Wife said the Mach 1 had been making a whining noise the last few days and since it has the stock clutch still I told her it was probably my throw out bearing, but I went to drive it today and found that it's something to do with the brakes.

When I start the car the brake pedal is SOLID and there is a whining noise coming from the engine bay. I tried pressing the pedal a few times and with a good deal of pressure it went down slightly but this made the whining worse.

I changed the pads about 3 months ago, but they have worked fine until now.

Any suggestions as to what this could be and how I can fix it?

Thanks,
Rob

the whining under the hood is probably the power steering pump, these cars have hydro boost, the brakes work off the power steering pump, so thats probably why the pedal feels wierd

That was it!

My fluid was pretty low. Topped it off, pumped the brakes for a bit, then took it for a spin.

Stops fine, no noise.

Thanks!
