Hi all,
I'm new to this forum but seems like a real good place to start. I've got a 95GT w/94K miles (easy miles, well maintained). My upgrade goal is 350FWHP and times in the low13's. Here's what I've done so far; 3.55:1 rear, Mac cold air fenderwell intake, underdrive pulley, MSD6A ingnition, 180deg. thermostat, flowmaster 2 chamber, 12deg timing. I'm debating on blower...OR...heads, cam, 73mm tb, MAF etc. Looking for the most cost effective approach(if there is such a thing, haha). The engine has been babied but still 94K miles. Should just sell it and drop in a Ford Racing GT40 shortblock engine? As you can tell, I'm not quite sure about what approach to take and could sure use some advise. Thanks in advance. Ed

i hope that was a typo...lol...5.0's have a lot of life, 94k is nothin on that car, my advice would do some heads, cam, and intake. that sould but u in the high 12's.

Welcome to the board!!!

5literstang-Why is that a typo? He means flywheel HP.

A good H/C/I (heads/cam/intake) setup can get you to your goal, a blower can also do the same thing. Its up to you and what you want. I prefer the NA (naturally aspirated) route. Mid to high 13's can be had with the stock heads and cam with an edelbrock performer intake, exhaust, pulleys, gears, and good driving in a coupe. A blower would be the easiest thing to do from an assembly standpoint, but (and you will get mixed responses on this comment) I think the NA route is a more reliable one and will cause you less headaches in the long run.

Trick flow H/C/I kit from Summit is around $2500. That should make you happy for now.

Re: 95 GT upgrade advise

Thanks, for the inputs. Yeah, I did mean flywheel HP. I'm printing what I have so far and will visit my wallet and see what to do. One thing that I've discovered for sure in reading these threads; HP=$. Fortunately, I have a fairly understanding wife who has blessed this endeavor(I wonder what the catch is). I like the Trick Flow Kit idea. I've been keeping an eye on ebay as well for parts but am a little apprehensive on buying "low mileage" heads, especially aluminum.
Talk to you soon and will publish some photo's

forced induction is an easy way to reach your goal. it does cost more, but it does give you greater return, in that you can up the boost and get more hp. it also allows u to build the engine after the blower, like an intake, heads....etc later down the road. a turbo setup is the new thing to do. no blower delay, no crankshaft pressure...i would go with a turbo if you get forced induction

Got another question for you. I noticed that your trans. is a T3550. Does the stock GT transmission have a limited HP and or tourque rating? I suppose it does. What I'm getting at is do I need to be concerned about the T5 blowing up on me after I've "improved" my engine performance.

i believe the t5 limit is 300 ft. pounds of torque. after that it is living on borrowed time. check out www.ddperformance.com and check out there F.A. Q. And welcome to the board let the madness begine.

At $2049, the Trickflow kit is probably the best aluminum head bang-for-buck right now. A buddy of mine is thinking of dropping in a CHP 347 along with the TFS kit. Would probably make him faster than me, even with his heavy convertible

Thanks for the web site on the T5. I'll check it out. I figured it was one more thing to consider. As far as the Trick Flow kit goes, the local Auto Zone doesn't deal with them. I'm probably better off ordering out of state anyway. Shipping will probably be less than local sales taxes.
Thanks All.
