What rpm did you shift at when you ran it at the track? The reason I ask is that if it was my car I'd shift that thing at no less than 6000rpms, but you mentioned you have the limiter at 6000. I think you might have more there now as it sits if you rev'd it a little more. You have heads and an intake that should make power well into the 6000rpm range, so cam it accordingly.

Thanks KillerCanary.

I was just searching the forums and found this older thread I started. I obviously missed your post somehow.
I generally shift at 5500 rpm but I'm a newbie to the track. I've been 4 times and have about 20 passes under my belt. My best ET is 13.66 @ 103.20 but my highest mph trap is 104.6 with a 13.69 ET (all season street tires ). I guess Ishould add that my car is full weight (no weight loss reductions) and I have 3.55's. I'm reving at around 4800 across the trap...that's not good.
I found my up to date dyno graph and it indicates 280 rwhp bang on and 311 torque. Again this is prior to pullies, and I've also since added a shifter. It appears to be a tad rich at 2500. I know it's lean the rest of the way though. My plugs are white. Tomorrow I'm going to dyno tune in an AFPR. Yes I'm using a stock FPR as well.

When I bought my CHP 347 it came with an emission legal cam. It did pass smog inspection and is a good street able cam. Im using 1.7rr for more lift but it is too small for my combo but might work for a 302.

lift 1.6.............lift 1.7
.510 / .534 .540 / .566
222 /232 dur .050

A typical, "good" SBF cam is something that favors the intake side in duration, and most of the time lift.
Joe[/QUOTE]

Is'nt it the Exh. side that needs to be favored? Thats what I have always heard/read. Dont know if its a typo or not, I know Joe knows his stuff realy, realy well so I just wanted to make sure/clear it up.

MTO- definitely try shifting it higher next time, if the car peaked at 5400 and you are shifting at 5500, you are under shifting the car. I'd bet that you'll pick up MPH by rev'n it, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. Who knows, your tach might be off and what you think is 5500 might be 5300... it has been known to happen. With 280rwhp in a GTS car, I'd expect nothing less than 105mph out of it, assuming your elevation isn't really high. Try the shift points and we'll go from there... there is power to be had more than likely in the AFPR, but I'd like to see what the higher shift point will do.

comp cams extreme energy cam
xe274hr
or a 268 I think?
they'll like your setup.
as for the oil consumtion issue, take the lower intake off and check the baffle on the underside, if it's not there, put it in, or if it's there bend the forward facing edge upwards. or you could run a catch can, there was a post about that problem a few months back, don't remember which one

xe274

or possibly an N-41 with 1.7s

a 347 with an xe274 or xe282 cam would fly...... X2C is selling forged 347s for a great price.....maybe something to look forward to.

Thanks folks on the cam info.
Killercanary, thanks for the tips and I'm taking the car in for dyno'ing this morning. I know my tach is accurate because I've compared it to the dyno tach and rev limiter. I'll try shifting higher next time. I'm probably losing out on some MPH with the 3.55"s? Peak rpm across the trap is about 4800.
I'm also going to try locking in my timing with spout removed next time I go to the track. That may give me a couple of mph as well. It did for a friend of mine. He locked his timing at 36 degrees spout removed and instantly picked up his ET's and mph.
