Hi, this is my first post. Last summer I bought my first mustang,a 93 Notchback. It has a pieced together motor and I am looking for some advice about were to go with it. Here is what it has so far,
BBK shorty headers
56 mm Mass air
BBK cold air induction
75 mm BBk throttle body
75 mm BBk EGR
Trick flow upper and lower intake
GT 40 heads
stock fuel rails, regulator
yellow top injectors (I think they are 19)
stock fuel pump??

Also, the car has a miss(sound almost like it hits a rev limiter) at about 5300 rpms. I am on a used parts budget here, being married with two kids, and would like to know what the next step for me would be. The car now feels like it has no top end power. Thanks for you help guys.

I believe they are 3.73 gears, and it's a five speed tranny. Also, forgot it has an e cam and underdrive pulleys and an electric fan. Iwas thinkin about larger injectors and an adjustable fuel pressure reg.

the car has 65k on it, motor is not orginal and has unknown miles. I put new plugs and wires, cap/rotor on it when i first bought it. Don't know if it is throwing any codes, no dummy lights are on. My budget is pretty much a McBudget. Whatever I come across that is a good deal that I need I get. Just looking for some experienced advice on what I really need. It gets expensive to just buy parts and hope that they solve the problem. I think I may also have a timing adjustment issue. Most of what I have heard says to put it at 14 degrees. Not sure what mine is at now. Thanks for any help.

I agree so far that the TB may be too big, but I would get a good tune up, filters and such first before dropping the money on a throttle body.

you should get a timing light. what works for one might not work for anoter. try to find a stock tb or a 65mm cheap. maybe even a 94-95 maf or a used one. you will have to get a flange piece to make the 94-95 work.

First thing you should do is dump the codes out of the computer. The CEL (check engine light) doesn't need to be on for the computer to store a code. Search for "Codes" that contain posts from "JRichker" and you'll come up with all the instructions you need. It's totally free (assuming you have a paper clip handy) and only takes 10 minutes. This will let your computer tell you if there are any issues with the engine before we move on to the Fuel pump.

Now for the theory: The Fox Mustang comes with a 88 lt/hr fuel pump from the factory. When these pumps were new, they didn't have enough juice to move the proper amount of fuel. Now fast forward 13 or so years to present day. That same pump is still there and now it's even less effecient. I bet you are experiencing a loss of fuel in the upper RPM range caused by your stock fuel pump.

The 75mm TB although big is hurting very little.

I would also agree, return to the basics, timing, spark and fuel delivery.

I would also try to figure out what your overall goals are before you make any significant purchases above the basics. If you are not sure maybe go to a drag strip and check out other mustangs, and their combinations. Figure out what you like, what you don't, and what seems to be in your price range.

Thanks to everyone who gave input. I'll try to run the codes on sat. My plans for the car are mainly to use on the street, with occasional strip use. I went once last fall, the numbers were embarrassing so I won't list them. Partly driver, partly equipment (tires), partly cold weather/track. But I will definately get a new fuel pump. Looks like the one to get is a Walbro, I won't start the whole 190/255 depate, but will go with the 255. Anyone had good luck with any of the cheaper timing lights?
