I have a 94 That was originally a v6. I just swapped it to a carb 5.0. The alternator Im assuming is off of an 86 (Block casting #) I have a three wire plug and a one wire plug from my orig. v6. I noticed that the little white, black wire is in both plugs. The remaining two wires are white/yellow and lt blue/red. My alternator has accepts two wires in the plug hole, excluding the power and ground. How do I go about making this work?!?!?! I NEED HELP ASAP!! thanks!

See this thread for info on converting your 94's alt to work in the 5L motor:

Good luck.

I dont think they are the same.... My alt looks different. It only accepts two wires, and that plug does not fit it. The alt is 86 and the wiring is 94 FYI in case it wasnt clear. Maybe a little more info would be nice!

So you dont want to use your 94's alternator on your new motor? That is what I would do.

Well I sold the v6 motor out of my 94, so the only one that I have is the one that came with it. How do I Know if it is an internally or externally regulated alt?

If you are keeping the elec fan, etc on your SN, I WOULD spend the money for a 3G alternator. You will overrun the 86's alt (it has half the output that your 94's alt had). Those old alts were throwbacks to carb days (no computers, high flow fuel pumps, etc etc). Even on foxes with mech fans, they dont do too well.

However, I dont know how the wiring differs on your four-eyed alt compared to an aero fox's alt. I will defer to Daggar et al. You could search his old posts for info - he once had a really nice write up on converting as I recall.

Good luck.
