So I got my oil change the other day and she only took 4.75 quarts. Since it was the first time I change the oil in the car, I didn't think it was such a big thing. I took it out of town after I stopped to fill up the tank, I noticed the check oil light on. So I waited till I stopped again to check/add some oil. Right before I added the last of the 5th quart, the dipstick knob broke off from the dipstick. Pi$$ed of course, I just added the oil and went on my way. About 2 miles down the road, I smelled something buring. Gas, oil, or crap I couldn't tell but I could smell it. I stopped when I got to my destination, and looked underneath the car and guess what I saw. Oil dripping from one of the seals and I thought well I just added some must have just ran off a little. Then I popped the hood and I SAW OIL ALL OVER THE PLACE!! !!!!!! ! ! !.. I guess it must have been shooting up through the dipstick hole. The damage isn't so bad I guess, I just don't know what I can do to fix a broken dipstick. I don't know where to get another one over here (UK). What can I do about this problem? What are the longterm problems? What are the short term problems? Any replies, help, or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I don't think a blew a head gasket but I did see white smoke coming outta the tail pipe of my car after I cranked it up, however, it wasn't there the 2nd and 3rd time I cranked it up. Thanks in advance.

At this point... I'd be pretty adamant about getting the broken dipstick out of the car. If you can't disconnect the dipstick housing from the oilpan then use a small pipe cutter (avail at almost any hardware store) and cut an inch at a time off of that housing till you can get to that dipstick. This of course, will make it necessary to replave that housing or.... modify your new dipstick to accomadate the shorter housing. As far as getting a new dipstick well... that's easy. Order one online. Until then, do what you can to not over/under fill your oil. You can use a piece of vacume hose capped off at one end to cover the stick housing for the time being.

Thanks Dagger, do you think I have hurt it at all? I reved it to about 2k, and it sounded pretty good and didn't shoot any oil out. I'm not driving it until I get another dipstick for it. I will just have to settle with driving the 95 for the time being. I actually thought the 95 would use the same size dipstick as the 93 :nonono: Thanks again. :nice:

I cranked the car up earlier and smoke came outta the tailpipes. Why would this happen?

are you sure smoke came OUT of the tail pipes?? It's very likely oil spilt onto the exaust, and is just burning off of the pipes when it gets hot.

if it's coming OUT of the pipes, then you've got a serious problem on your hand.

i dont know about where to get a dipstick. if all else fails, Iron Medic was over there, IIRC. he might know of somewhere. also, Lokar makes flexible dipsticks, if you need to start over. guys with funky headers run the Lokars pretty often.
good luck.

Now the car won't even crank. I tried yesterday for about 15 minutes and it only turned over twice, but it wouldn't stay on. I thought I may have ran outta gas so I added about a gallon, but still it did nothing. The check oil light comes on when I turn the key. I have added about a half a quart, and still nothing's happening. If I had a blown head gasket what would be some symptoms? Thanks again.

ok, im a little confused on the terminology. it does turn over (starter engages and it cranks), but it will not catch? is that right?

have you pulled codes? how is oil pressure while cranking (if applicable)?

good luck.

It did turn over two days ago but it wouldn't stay on. I haven't pulled any codes yet, because I would have to take it to a mechanic and it's not running at the present time. The oil pressure is actually there when I try to crank it so I don't know what is going on with it. Is there a fuel release button in the 93's?? I know my 95 has one in the trunk, and I had to utilize it when I ran outta gas.

I quit!!!! It just won't crank up and I haven't the slightest idea why. I put about 2 gallons of gas into it and still no results. Why would it not crank up? Even with something majorly wrong it should crank right?
