Need help!!!! I can't take it any more.

allright, here is my problem. i have had my car for 1-2 years now and from the day i got it to now it has never started like it should. when my car is completely cold, it almost always takes two cranks to start, but if my car is only off for a few minutes while hot and i go to start it back up, it starts fine. it is annoying when it takes so long to start my car up and i hate when there are alot of people around watching.

i have replaced the following and some of it has helped for a little while, but it still keeps coming back.

autolight sparkplugs
msd wires
msd cap and rotor
msd blaster coil

i just keep buying stuff and hope that it will take car of the problem. The only other things that i can think of is a fuel pump, battery issues, or a starter problem. my car has a really weak start. it feels like the battery isn't supplying the starter enough juice. also, my battery terminals and everything are old, so i thought about getting a steeda relocation kit with an optima battery. maybe that will do the trick.

also, i did a search to find some answers. some other guy was having very similar probs. and people were talking about a starter selonoid or something like that. anyways, he just got a new starter and it took care of it for him.

I would first start off by replacing the battery. Since you havent changed your fuel filter go ahead and do that. This won't fix the problem but it will finish your tuneup. It sounds like a battery issue to me.

i did do a fuel filter too. i forgot to add that. i think i will try an optima battery, but i need to decide what to do about the relocation kit. what are the track rules for a trunk mounted battery. i know you need a switch, but isn't this only for cars that run like 12 sec or lower. also, i looked at my battery and cables today and i was a bit confused when it came to the cables. they split off several times and i don't know what it is that they are connected to. if i go to autozone and buy replacement cables, will it come the correct length and split off where it need to???

has anyone tried the steeda battery kit or heard anything at all anout it???

p.s. another reason i think this might be a battery issue is b/c one time my car wouldn't crank and i ended up towing it all the way home to find out that the positive terminal wasn't sitting just right. all i did was wiggle the terminal on the battery and i had power again. therefore i know that the terminal connection is not that great. so that is why i want to get new cables with the battery.

also, to get the steeda kit and an optima battery, it will run over $300.

Buy a generic battery relocation kit like from summit or jegs if you dont mind having a plastic battery box. As far as witing goes I can help you with that. I did my whole battery relocation for under 50 bux. So if you need any help just email me. [email protected].

I bet you need a new fuel pump.....mine did the exact same thing...put up with it for 4 yrs...throw a F/P gage on it...I bet the moment the key goes off, the fuel pressure goes to 0 instantly....thats your problem...thats why it needs to crank, to build pressure again....

Test it this way...turn the key 3 times on/off, to get a good prime...if its lights on the 4th time, your pressure regulator in the pump is gone...

I replaced mine and it actually holds pressure...lites first time every time now, whether over nite or sitting a few like yours does.......Its damn nice to....

Flo Pro, just go out and buy a battery. Its almost guaranteed thats the problem. And you dont need that relocation kit. Its not worth your money. Just go get a battery and terminals or whatever and be done with it.

first of all....you already proved that throwing money at a car doesn't do ****....

Go to autozone and get your batterry tested for free. FYI my yellow car had a junk battery and still didn't take that long to start. Your car turns over fast enough. Plus your lights don't dim way down and such. I don't believe your starter is the problem either. It would most likely start harder when hot and opposite when cold.

The whole relocation and switch.....You don't need a switch until you run like 10's or some really fast time. Do you really want a hole in your trunk anyways? My cobra just has the stock ground cable going through the floor of the trunk onto the frame. The positive wire is just a big long one attached from the stocker and routed to the back. The battery is just sittin in the stock tray bolted to the trunk. If the looks are the main thing than just get a sweet UPR billett box and do the rest yourself. I don't think you need overpriced steeda bull**** to relocate a battery. personally I don't think a battery relocation would be anywhere near noticable or worth it.

The whole starting issue.. I think RI05.0 is on the right track. You're not gonna notice when it's hot cuz the pump heats up and the tolerances will get tighter and it won't bleed off as fast. The pump would be something good for down the road and is something that should be done with that kind of mileage anyways.

The battery cables are not replaceable in those cars...That I know of.... It is all like integrated with the whole fuse box. You can however replace the contacts if you like.

As long as he gets the red top one. The yellow one supposedly doesn't make as much horsepower.

Fuel Pump. Try turning your key on/off a few times to prime the pump. If it start easier, then its the pump. Very common.

Just watch the battery size with the optimas. They come in different sizes and may be too tall. I'm not sure which one we use though. A sealed battery is the way to go, I hate my juice box.

I know you might have already checked this but first check to make sure the terminals are extremely tight. I ran into this a few times on weak starts. At first it was that the terminals was very loose and tightening it a bit gave it complete contact with the terminal and fixed the weak start. The second time the terminal itself was cracked.

it's most likely your fuel pump, almost certain. had the same problem last year. the fuel pump isn't holding pressure. and in turn just drains the fuel back to the tank. which has been explained above in other posts.
so just like RIO50 and Srpera said about turning your key to the on position a couple of times to prime your pump. and then see if it starts up.

one thing people over look on the battery is that funky build up on the terminals. that white and green powdery stuff (what ever it's called). clean that off with a wire brush, you'll be surprised the difference it could do.
