Need Help NOW! Whats the difference between Design Concepts and Cervinis?

i have a dc 3" cowl hood and loved it, yeah the underside isn't finished and you have to cut the rear vents out (I used a dremel tool) but the ceverinis is so pricey that they many times turn people away from the products when people see other places for 100 or 200 less than them. They do make quality products but there hoods are pretty heavy when compared to other hood comapnies and there shipping is alot too. I mean who wants to pay 379 for a hood and than tack on 100-200 for shipping it truck freight. When i bought my cobra rear bumper for cervinis i went and picked it up cause i couldn't see dropping 150bux on shipping rather take the 4hr drive.

I felt the same intially but the hood is no heavier because it doesn't have a finished underside. I only paid 88 for shipping and that was on all of the parts going over 1000 miles. And if you buy more than a couple parts they give you ten percent off. It worked out really well for me. Oh and the wing ( I am told) is Centrex not fiberglass, so its very light. My buddy got a cobra wing that is glass and it weighs a bit more than mine. But really, even though weight is important, style is what many of us are getting these hoods for. How many people that have 2.5" or larger cowls even have an engine that dictated the hood size? My TFS track heat sticks up a bit but not enough to mandate a cowl. So I guess the same rings true on cutting the vents, if you got a hood for style maybe is doesnt matter if the vents arent open. But I tell ya what they look sweet and have a nice metal screen in them already. I dig it big time. I still might have gone with DC but it was only like 30 - 40 dollars different for my stuff. And it all lines up great, it isnt installed yet but I test fit it all.

hey whats a dremel tool? how much is it where do u get it and how do u use it? MY HOOD Is already in the paint shop would be way to dangerous to remove the cut outs now that its painted w/ out damaging it ?!?! I DONT KNOW WUT TO DO!

So are those ovals supposed to be cut out? If so im gonna be pissed, cuz my car is almost done the hood is already painted and *****. I bought mine from Design Concepts cuz it was $100 cheaper than Cervinis

Dremels are like 30 bucks...basically a cheap rotary cutting tool. Kinda like a mini router. They can be bought at any hardware store, Loews, Home Depot, etc. It could be done after the hood is painted if a steady hand is used and taking into consideration the type of grills that will fill the ovals afterwards. The ovals dont have to be cut out unless you want the hood to funtion like a cowl induction as well as look like one. I am sure there are threads on this but in addition to looking good and making room for mods a cowl hood extracts hot air from the engine bay while the car is moving. A sI understand it when the car reaches a certain speed there is a low pressure area created at the base of the windshield and the air from the engine bay being hot and at a slightly higher pressure moves through the cutouts towards the low pressure area helping underhood temperatures.

is it hard to do ? chance of screwing up the hood? should i do it myself? i dont want to put screens in.

?? im about to go to the paint shop this weekend and ask how much it would cost for them to cut those holes out while their at it and if its not to much ill have them do it instead of me i dunno =/ Thats so lame DC didnt pre cut those holes, i saw where those ovals where but i thought it was suppose to be like that.

if anything i would have it down before primer and paint. When i did mine before it was painted it was pretty tough to do, i even went out and bought a special fiberglass bit for the dremel tool, and it still splintered and chipped like crazy, good thing i had it off the car and i could manueaver otherwise forget about it.

damn.. im going to the shop saturday and see they did start painting my hood yet, their starting on monday and **** so, im gonna stop by on saturday and tell them bout the oval cut outs and see how much they'll do it for and ****, if its not to expensive ill go for it if they charge a lot ill be like F it and either keep it no cut outs or MAYBE do it myself but i have a feeling id like it no cut outs if the guys at the shop dont do it

your probably have a better chance of making it look nicer if its already painted to just make a template and drill vent holes like a screen, thats how cervinis hoods are, they don't have the entire section cut out. Good luck

I got a used and unpainted Cervinis Cobra R hood for 250! Im so happy, all I had to do was sand it with a DA with 400 grit seal it, base coat, and clear it. Came out really well. As straight as your going to get under steel hoods. I will only buy from Cervinis, just because I've seen it in person and love the quality.

thats a good idea with the drilling but my cervini's isnt like that. it has the ovals cut out with a metal scren mesh glassed in from the back, actually the oval weren't cut out the were formed in cuz they are gel coated around the edges just like the rest of the hood. i know it seem minor to some people but thats why cervinis stuff is a bit highter, they dont cut corners. i can finally attest to that after buying and examining the stuff. and in no way do i mean that dc cuts corners, i think there stuff would be great too, but you get what you pay for. like i said b4 i ended up paying less than 100 bucks more for my stuff and i am glad i did. i bet it will cost more than 100 bucks to take a dc hood and have a shop cut in the oval and istall screen.

BTW if you dont install a screen you will probably find that you get a bunch of leaves, squirrels, import cars and junk in your engine bay

not true, i had a cowl hood w/ cut outs and no screen i never had any problems at all for 2 yrs i had that car. but yo that is a good idea to just drill some holes where those two ovals are. hmm that might even be easy enough to do myself without f**king the hood up, well im still gonna drop by the shop saturday cuz ill be in the area and run those two ideas by them to see what they'd charge, if its a bit to much then im just gonna either a.) to the drill holes myself or b.) ***** it and leave it how it was when i bought it.

opinions?

I have seen the hole thing done b4 and it looks good if they are laid out well. i think the new goodmark steel cowl hood has the holes in cowl approach doesnt it?

i may leave the hood how it is depending on some variables, cuz i know it wont make much of a difference performance wise with or without the holes my car doesnt run hot or anything. but we'll see ill know wuts about in a day or so and ill shoot back wut happened.

if it were me i'd line up some dots in photoshop or paintbrush whatever u have and print out a template, tape it dow and drill through the holes so there nice and even.

hmm true, i think im going to leave it.. 1.) my car is fuel injected 2.) it runs a good temp. if it comes down the road maybe ill drill the holes but hey i think it will be fine the way it is.
