I have a 9" versailles rear end with 3.25 gears (28 spline) and i'm looking at changing the gears to 3.89. my limited slip is no longer working and want to change that too. Will the detroit truetrac limited slip work with my carrier? I wanted to go with the powertrax no-slip but the tech guy at richmond gears said it will only work with an open diff carrier and I have a trac-loc carrier. So any help or recommendations will be greatly appreciated. 66' coupe restomod (links to pics below...) Thanks in advanced for the help!!!

Why don't you just rebuild the Trac-loc unit? They're really simple to do, especially considering you're going to swap gears anyway.

Be happy you can't go with Richmond, I have their PowerTrax and don't like it. My Father just had an Eaton system installed. The place my Father found that is installing his Eaton setup will ONLY use Eaton and NOT Richmond. I wish I knew that 2 months ago. Sorry, but my dad still needs to install his rear into his Mustang.

Give Eaton a call.

Nothing wrong with a clutch style diff, it'll most likely outlast your interest in the car after a rebuild.

The truetrac is a nice unit and it will fit into your carrier. I had one for a couple of years and really liked it on the street.

Through no fault of the truetrac, I broke it with too much HP at the drag strip using sticky drag slicks and drag tuned suspension. Since the car also twists toploader input shafts into barber poles, I am sure that I am overwhelming my whole drive train and of course something must give.

The truetrac IS a good unit so don't be turned off by my abuse story.
