I just installed a 130 amp 3g alternator but the voltage is still low if I turn on the accessories. I've got a smaller crank pulley so I want to install the pulley from my 2g onto the 3g. Problem: I cannot get the pulley off. What am I supposed to be doing?

Take a air impact gun and give it hell. Mine was a pain. I sprayed some penatrating oil on the threads and let it soak. Came back and it still took alot of effort.

So I'm supposed get that 15/16 nut off of there? Don't worry about the alan key hole thing in the middle?

I'm going to have to let it soak in some wd-40 or something b/c I bent the mess out of the fan on the 2g by using the jamming the fan and turning that nut. Nothing moved except the fan blade. Oops.

I tried sticking a screwdriver in the fan blade idea:D That didnt work out so well. Just soak it and give it hell. It wasnt easy for me and sounds like your in the same boat. It will come off of there.

I guess I'll have to buy an air impact gun. This job keeps getting more and more expensive.....like always :D

A local garage I go to sometimes removed the nut with an impact wrench and installed a smaller pulley I had for my 3g,for no charge.
The alternator was off the car and I just brought it in to them.

Well, I went to the local shop and they removed the pulley for me. New problem: I need a spacer to move the pulley out on my 3g and I need to machine the pulley because I the nut will not go on all the way. I guess I could buy a new pulley that would work but I don't know where to buy one from. Any help gentlemen?

I went to a local starter/alternator rebuilder to get a new smaller 2g size pulley for my 3g.

A place like this should be able to get you a smaller pulley that fits properly.

(1996 and up 3g`s have a different case and different pulley spacing compared to 94-95.A pulley off a stock 2g doesn`t fit properly on these 96 and up 3g`s.)My 3g came off a 96 taurus.

I bought my 3g from the parts store brand new. It is supposed to be for a 94 mustang. I don't know about the starter/alternator rebuild shop around here...I'll have to look for one.

glad i didn't try pulling that pully off the 2g then... (tried screwdriver method and then gave up). My volts stay at 14.00-14.20 /w all accesories on though.

Will be adding stereo soon (600watts etc) so let me know if you find a part # for a smaller pully somewhere.
