Ok so I bought my roomates 89 GT with the 306 but now I need your help to get the motor running again before I yank it to put it into my 95. The car ran perfect a year ago when I went up to Pittsburg and saw it for the first time but 6 months later when we went up to tow it down here and it was backfiring through the... my roomate started turning the engine by hand trying to get the number one piston to top dead center and was messing with the timing and now it wont turn over. Where do I start? He also told me that they did have to change a head gasket because when they built the motor they put one of them on backwards but the motor it only has about 15,000 miles on it, could it be another blown head gasket?

any help is greatly appriciated,
Jose

Jose, if it won't turn over, charge the battery up or get a battery that has some deep cycle ability.

I'm not sure what you meant by some of the other stuff so I'll leave it at that for now.

Good luck.

mark the balencer at 0* or 10* or both

pull the #1 spark plug

turn the motor over untill you feel air come out of the hole then stop. check tha balencer and make sure the pointer is somewhere near the 0-10 marks

pull the dist cap and check where the rotor is pointing. it should be centerd or somewhere really close to the #1 post, if its not turn the dizzy till its lined up and it should fire. if not youve got some other issue
