well all,
my uncle got me a very nice set of valve covers for christmas:D
Ford Racing M-6582-R302 - Ford Racing Aluminum Valve Covers - summitracing.com

he is a knowledgeable guy ol school mustang man with a 66' but will these work with my efi motor? i really am not the type of person to tell someone that wha tthey got me as a gift isnt right or needs to be exchanged... and actually if i had my choice i would buy these valve covers myself! i need to get the breathers, can i just cap off the that lil hose that goes to the stock valve covers? or put a small bfilter on it? i see people doing it all the time? but doesnt it effect? the egr system or whatever, and rumor has it florida is going to get strict with emissions...
maybe something like this a breather cap pff an old ranger

ah dont tell me this they are a bit taller but no more than an inch, and i remeber correctly there is an inch of clearance there???,i cant break the news.....i need to get a new lower to upper anyways cause ihave to take off the upper intake to install these and retorque my lower gt40 intake....
these are a realy nice set, that if i say dont work will end up in his closet and i will be giftless:rolleyes: and if i dont put them on my car i will be stuck with the question where are the valve covers i bought you, not to mention my stockers were painted by me and are cracking and peeling all over the place.....
so i guess it not will these work but instead what do i need to make these work....
so far i know i need
new:
valve cover gaskets
2 breather caps
maybe a spacer?

I am pretty sure we put that same set on my buddies car and we added a 1 inch spacer for clearence.

ok thats not a deal breaker i have a 3icnh cowl waiting for install....
so hood clearacne isnt an issue

my only other concern is will the throttle body linkage hit these valve covers?
and wont the oil fill spots be reversed? and unaccessible? hmm carberator anyone?JK!!!!!

i can get a 1 inch spacer if need be. not doubting you "droptop" but want to see someone who is running these covers can confirm before i drop 50.00 on a freaking spacer!!!!:mad:

i

I have similarly-drilled valve covers on my car. Pass. side is covered (capped hole in faces the firewall) and the driver's side has the breather. I take the breather out and fill with oil using a funnel whenever I change it.

If you put the 1" spacer on the intake, that'll raise the throttle body & linkage so I don't think that's going to be a problem.

ok what did you use to cap it with or what oil cap works?so one side is capped and the other is breather i assume that is just push in and not screw in right? i find caps with screw in style and breather...i feel mighty stupid for such an easy topic..i feel like im going to mess something up big time..i dont know what to search for since this a retorfit or whatever you want to call it

fyi these covers are 3 3/4" tall.anyone know stockers height?

ok so its confirmed.

i need:
valve cover gaskets
oil cap
oil breather? or can i just cap both?????what would be better?
1inch gt40style spacer. any tips cause i hear these things never seal right?
some longer bolts for the 1 inch space....anyone know the exact length etc:shrug:

thanks guys:nice:

As far as the breather goes, well, I have a supercharger on my car. I don't see that you do based on your signature, so you might want to mimmick the stock setup as best as you can right? You could get that vent you posted from the Ranger or whatever it came from, and replicate the PCV valve from the stock application (you know, the tube that goes up to the top of the throttle body).

Or if you've eliminated that for some reason, then just cap 'em both and be done with it :)

Regarding length of the new bolts, I have no clue, but if you pull a stock one and add an inch to it...ta-da!

lol...thanks
im just going to run it like yours and cap off the tb....i doubt its going to hurt anything:D and when the emission come into play here in florida i might get omitted being it a 20 year old car in a few weeks

...rumor has it florida is going to get strict with emissions...

Emissions? Seems like I left Orlando at the right time...

The necessity for the spacer is because the vacuum plumbing for the PCV and power brakes comes off the bottom of the upper manifold. It hangs over the driver's side valve cover and takes up about 3/4" of space. Some guys will eyeball the clearance without the vacuum plumbing installed and then run into trouble when they put everything together for real.

i cant use them......
i just measured stuff about an hour ago...
maybe with a stock 5.0 manifold but with my gt40 style explorer my vacuum setup wont allow, it along with the breather cap and other stuff that would be needed that would just make it more problematic for clearance....oh well less work.....
btw: i just noticed i got a lil rust developin giside the filler tube right under the oil cap? i think its the paint that might have over sprayed into there? im kind of worried....it real small and just surface rust

does he have the gt40 or explorer, or the china gt40 cause it does seem possible just going to be real close......i would have to split another vacuum port and hack saw of the vacuum nipple that comes of the front side of the explorer intake...it is possible but it is going to take time an money to make them work.....not to mention i would also have breather that could possibly hit the tb linkage on the passanger side and might even still hit the plenum on the drivers side(these valve covers have a reversed setup and have pcv provision on the valve cover)
he said he could use em on his 302, and i can swap them out for something. but i really am not like that(a gift is a gift not value). i said maybe some dew wipe trip for my doors. but i haven't thought of anything else worth while for under 100.00?? he wont take them back until he replaces them with something i want...(good guy)..i really like the idea of nice valve covrs since mine were painted blue and are flaking of like a piece of toast....but valve covers are just valve covers.

i got to re torque my lower and get those old valve covers cleaned and original looking. but the spacers are like 40-60.00$$ and that right there aint really worth it IMO
so i think im going to let these go towards a beter cause...i am going to remove my stocekrs and clean the up though so its presentable...
just got to find something worth the money for under a 100.00
maybe somoene can post al ink of some decent priced efi valve covers that will clear the 1.7rr and not have breather cap

do you have a gt40 style intake(explorer style to be precise) its a little bigger on the drivers side then all other intakes:shrug: and it has a vacuum port sticking out of the fron of the intake right above the drivers side valve cover:mad: i could hack saw it and plug it, and then my only problem would be clearing breathers? does your car hit the breathers? and what did you cap the pcv hole with and oil fill side with??

ps. btw does anyone know what or why there is rust on under my oil fill cap running dow the inside of the valve cover almost all the way to the baffle plate? its just on one side? could it be possible for paint to rust like that or something cause i think i did have some overspray on that same area and the other side is still fine?? it makes me nervous i am going to pull them off and try repainting them

ps.#2 which valve cover do you need to take off the upper to remove? passenger side or drives...im having a brain fart
