I'm not a builder, but i've talked to a few experts. You have to mock it all up and grind the bottom of the cylinders where the rod bolts may hit. A good machinest thats done this many times will know exactly what needs to be done.

Since I don't know your friend, I can't say how competent he is, but if he didn't know about clearance issues, I would wonder what else he is not so sure about.

It was just a thought. Perhaps he is the best engine builder in the world, but a good machinist is not something to skimp on.

Grn92LX is correct. I have a book that goes through a stroker buildup. They assemble parts of it at a time (although not the complete assembly), and mark on the block where the rod bolts will hit, and use a die grinder to provide clearance.

Im not saying to do it this way, but this gives you a good idea of where the clearance problems will be.

The mechanic friend may not know about the clearance issues on a 347 stroker because building strokers isn't a common practice unless you work for a performance shop.

I am kind of in the same hole. I've got a 306 shortblock on a stand. I'm not too excited about the compression ratio and such so I thought of swapping to something else.

347 Stroker

Ok...maybe i wasn't clear on that...he doesn't know what special machining has to be done to the block when you build a stroker...he is a certified ford mechanic...he has never built a stroker..so any info on that would be great...thanx
