Need help with a PROBLEM

Hey yall
I need your help with a problem. Ok to start i have a 66 mustang coupe that i have converted into a shelby clone. I have installed a mustang ll front suspension. I have built and installed a 1969 351W between the fenders. I just installed the 67 style Shelby hood for the 65-66 model. On the motor i have installed a edelbrock RPM intake that is regular height, no spacer. and topped it with a holly 750 vac sec w/ electric choke. And heres my problem, I have no room for a air cleaner to fit. i only have 2 inches of room at the most. Has anyone else here had this problem? Does anyone know of a drop base that will clear a vac sec system, neither proform or K&N fit, already tried. CUTTING a hole in the hood is not an option.
Thanks for your help ahead of time.

Although they are expensive, the air cleaner from a 1969 Corvette with a 390-horse 427 is absolutely the lowest air cleaner you can find. It clears a vacuum secondary Holley just fine, and looks like any other generic 14" air cleaner. The base is so low, it nearly swallows the carb, so if the carb will fit under the hood, chances are the carb with the 'vette air cleaner will as well. Like I said they reproduce them, but expect to pay near $200 for an accurate one. I got the one for my wife's Corvette from Dr Rebuild, let me know if you're serious and I'll find the phone number. I just did a quick search and found this, good luck! http://www.docrebuild.com/

Doc Rebuild (aka Geoffrey Coenen) is an excellent outfit, I have spoken to him personally, although he is now semi-retired, last I heard. The Corvette part is no doubt excellent, if he is selling it. The aftermarket part is probably cheaper, and looks it, with a huge stamped "MOROSO" logo on it. That doesn't bother some people, but it would bother me.

Moroso drop base should work. Just use the base and then a 3" K&N. You can also add the new K&N top flow lid for better air flow.
I know it's hard to believe, but the Moroso base is a full inch taller than the stock Corvette part. My wife's car had a Moroso drop base air cleaner when she bought it, and had to use a very thin air cleaner in order to clear the hood.
