Ok, when I go to fill up my car. it takes FOREVER!! I put about $10 or $15 in (I put in about $30-34 from around 1/4 tank) and the sucker kicks off. at EVERY gas station. at EVERY Pump. I've tried putting the nozzle all the way in, I've tried Angles, halfway in, and also holding it out and aiming for the hole lol. (when I do the last one it just spits gas everywhere... and I mean I'll still have a half a tank left. its almost like there's air trapped in my gas tank and it just suds up to the top of the hole kicking the nozzle off. takes me about 20 minutes to fill my car up! should take me 5... anyone got an idea??

thanks in advance.

I'm a little surprised you are having that problem with an '07, but the only fix I know of is to swap out the fuel tank. I had the problem with my '05 and Ford issued a service letter that I took to the dealer and they replaced the tank at no cost. After that I could fill the tank with no problems. you should be able to take it in and get the tank replaced especially if you are still under warranty.

Thanks for the info! I just went over all my information. My Dealer Lied to me last time I was up there for something. he was trying to tell me I had a 24000 mile Bumper to bumper warranty and that I was almost out (which I'm at 29,somethin now)... but I just looked at my original Dealer Sticker, and the "2007 year Model Warranty guide" and they both say 36000 B2B on mine. SO, Monday morning I'm going straight to Ford and I'm NOT letting them Snuff me! this tank issue SUCKS! I look like an idiot trying to fill up my car lol.

I can probably get my radio replaced now too. cause it just spits out ALL my cds and reads "bad disc" (store cds, cd-r, Mp3, you name it) it just happened the other day. wonder why my car is takin a spill all of the sudden? ha. I've already ordered an aftermarket head unit and a small system anyway so the radio isn't a big issue (but it would be nice to get it replaced for when of if I ever decide to get rid of the car)

My car is also an 07 and it does not like to be refueled at times. Looks retarded as hell but the only way to fix the problem is to turn the fuel nozzle upside down ( with the trigger facing upward) and when the flow starts working slowly rotate it back to the regular position. Works every time this happens.

I have an 07 as well, and on occasion I get this problem. I've tried the dorky flipped nozzle trick and it didn't work, so I gave up and went to a different pump.

I typically go to the same gas station every time, and I've had perfect results at one pump, but the one behind it has given me issues. No idea what the hell is going on.

I'm out of warranty so the gas tank option is out.

My 07 does the same thing. I just end up trying different nozzle positions until it starts to flow again. Anyone know if we can just swap in a bigger hose running down to the tank ?

You guys need to check the TSB's (Tech Service bullitins) there used to be a thread here or perhaps one of the other Stang sites may still have it. Lot of time Ford will say we will fix it during the first X years or so many k's miles. Chances are you can get that fixed for free, but seems like the dealer won't tell you. Give it a try you got nothing to lose but something thats nagging you. Seems the dealer just don't want to do it. Walk in there with the TSB and say fix the hope this helps.

Yeah I went in today and he's saying he's not heard of anything about the gas tanks... then he found the TSB for the 05's and he said it also said that mine wouldn't be fixed with a new tank... he said to try a new station... but he is supposed to be contacting someone about it and see if there's something they don't know about... he said, alot of times, Ford wont bother telling them these things..

I never had the problem. Had it occasionally with my '05. Rather than dealing with Ford, I just went to a new station and the problem stopped.

My 07 has been insanely difficult to fill from day 1, unless it is below 1/4 and I turn the nozzle upside down (on first click) until 6-7 gallons have pumped in, then rotate it back to normal position and fill it up the rest of the way w/out looking retarded for the whole stop. It will not fill with any of these pumping tricks if it is 1/2 or higher in fuel level. This is crazy. The dealer won't do a thing; they say they 'can't'.... I wonder what happens when renters try to top off the car prior to returning to the airport dropoff areas to avoid being robbed for fuel prices at the counter..... I also hear that in NJ, there is no self serve..... I'm not sure if the attendant would go through all these gyrations!

lol If we were to fill up at a Non Self-serve place where they do it, I'm sure they would stop at the first "click-off" assuming it was full lol so going there is a waste of time for me....

Also I would like to add that I Decided to try one of these flip tricks when it popped off, so I turned the nozzle handle to about 1:00 and away she went. lol I looked dumb as hell but it tickled me to death that my car filled up with no issue.. and Ford wont do a thing... so looks like retarded is my only option now lol

I've used this trick before too. My 06 only acts up if I run it really low. I try not to do that often anyway. It does work for me though.

My 05 has done that all the time, I do the upside down trick cause mine was out of warranty when I got it, who cares what it looks like as long as I get gas in the tank so I can roll! I live in Jersey and sometimes it takes a little convincing to get the (english is their 2nd language) attendant to do the trick so I just pump it myself. Again who cares as long as I can go cruisin.

I had the same problem in 05. Ford replaced the filler neck and the tank. I think there is a TSB on this issue

Go to s197.com. look for the DIY section page 3, when you see " 05+ Gas Tank Fill Problem Fix", click on it and give it a try, my 05 had this same problem, I did this, and no more problem at ALL. hope it works for everyone.

REDroush2 - the S197.com site appears to be under construction this morning. Is there any other location with the same good info? Thanks.
