Need help from owners of x-303 cams & Victor Jr. Stuff

Hello, everyone

I got some extra dough and I want to change my combo. Will this be okay, I want Victor Jr. Heads, an x-303 cam, victor Jr. intake. Will this clear with my stock hood, the intake? Do I have to do any other modifications to the engine for these items? Can I re-use my 1.6 crane adjustable roller rockers for these new heads? With the assembled Victor Jr.'s will the x-303 cam work? Will this combo push me over 400hp to the rear and be okay for a dail driver? Please look at my sig for any help for me. Any other ideas would help, but I don't want a power adder or nos. Thanks to all for your help. :)

I do believe the Victor Jr runs a "air gap" design which inherently makes for a taller intake... so you might have issues there. Those heads and intake are mighty stout peices, I was going that route I wouldn't opt for the X cam. I'd go custom or call up E-brock or comp cams and see what grinds they recommend. There are just too many newer and better cam profiles out there. Ramp rates and such have come a long way over the past few years. As for 400rwhp... that is not an easy thing to accomplish even with a 347. At one time I thought 400rwhp out of a 347 was a walk in the park until I thought I was going to build one and started looking at combos, there are not a whole of people that have done it. 370-380 is more the norm of a pretty stout 347 from what I've seen.

Ahh, That stinks. You have very good points Mr.KillerCanary. Nice car by the way, I really like those yellow stangs :nice: . I guess the other route is a power adder and possible like you said an appropraite cam and I should stick with my current heads and purchase possibly a performer edelbrock or rpm 2 intake. I just hate the test and tune part of power adders and I will need a whole mess of stuff (MSD BTM, A better harmonic balancer than stock, a chip, dyno time, gauges, plus the power adder):(. Thank you for your input its much appreciated.

i dont have any personal experiences with the X cam....but it seems to me that lots of people who go to X cam have nothing but problems....go custom

that's because they dont change their lifters out and the X cam basically tortures their lifters to death with its big ramp rate and duration.

I'd suggest you toss in for a set of hardened pushrods, aftermarket lifters, and a throttle body. Oh, and throw that adjustable fuel pressure regulator in the trash before you destroy your fuel injectors. what do you have your rail pressure at right now? heh.

my first cam in my old 94 was an X, I absolutely loved the idle it had but i didn't have the rest of my car setup for it and it did a little damage

swapped to a F cam and a better setup and the car ran very nice and still had some chop to it, then sold the car doh!

I have hardend pushrods, my lifters are aftermarket also, both are crane brand made. My fuel pressure is set at 35psi.
