I think I am going to use Duplicolor like many others have. Is the 1200 degree or a the 500 or 600 degree better for valve covers and timing cover and so forth. I want to paint them the same color as our stock silver/gray looking alternator, plenum and so forth. Will the valve covers need sanding at all since they are plastic or just cleaned really good? Any in sight is helpful. I dont want blue or red valve covers either... Hate that look...

I would suggest getting a pair of new valve covers and painting those. Then swap the new painted ones onto the car. That way you will be starting with nice clean ones that will take the paint well.

I would use the highest temp paint you can get.

Also, the valve covers are pretty challenging to remove and replace and will probably always leak after you change them.

I never heard of the plastic ones leaking... Only some aftermarket ones... I am building a whole motor and have windsor heads. Just rather get the plastic valve covers cause I hear better things. And paint thinner should take off all greases and oil...
