Hey guys. I'm new to this message board.. Hoping I can get some help here..

I have a '91 GT. Originally had an AOD trans and I swapped in a T5 I got from an '86 GT that had been crashed.. I did all the mechanical stuff, no problem.. What I need help with is the wiring..

The T5, being from an '86. has a different harness than my 91.. It has an 8-wire connector, where as the AOD has a 4-wire connector.. And the wires are different colors.. I've tried looking through the schematic drawings in both Chiltons & Haynes Manuals and I cant figure it out.. :bang:
I'm not using a speed sensor, so all I basically need is the reverse lights & the clutch/neutral safety switch wiring..

Anyone have any idea what wires are for what on the two harnesses? Also, which plug on the trans itself is for what? There are two plugs..

Thanks in Advance..Appreciate any help/info.

Joe

Well, like i said, the original was the 4-pin AOD connector.. one wire is white with either a yellow or pink stripe.. The other is Red with either a blue or green stripe, and the other two I am not sure.. it is too hard to tell..they are darker, brown, or something like that, both with dark colored stripes..

If I knew what the wires on the AOD connector were, and which connector coming off of the T5 was for what, then I could probably figure it out.. On the T5 there is a connector coming from the top of the driver side, and from the middle of the driver side on the trans..

I didn't read the above thread, but for the correct wiring, all you need is a t5 harness from an 87+ stang, (the harness that runs under the carpet) it's plug and play, as your aod dash harness is the same as a t5 harness. Get that t5 harness and it'll work. If you can't find one, pm me

I've heard different things you can do -- some people say their way works, some have problems. This seems to be the only 100% right all-the-time answer. It's a little harness about 2-3 feet of wire, not a big deal to get out of the other car.

I have one and it's the way I'm going. :nice:

where would that harness then connect to? Directly to the switches on the tranny? Then I just toss the old one? Would I need to change the switches on tranny, or are they the same??

I finally got all the correct wire colors, but there are only 1 or 2 wires that match..

I'll look into the newer harness..

I am not sure about the neutral saftey switch but the one for the clutch is actually toward the top of the clutch pedal. I just left it looped like it is in the automatic b/c I plan on installing a remote start. Plus no one else drives my car (not trying to sound hard core but even my wife doesnt like to drive my car and the friends that do drive it are smart enough to know it is always better to put the clutch in anyways).

I tracked the aod harness back to the kickpanel.. Un plugged it, and the T5 harness I have plugged right in..

Does this mean it will work, or will it not b/c it is an '86??

I guess I'll just have to wait and see.. I installed the connector for the clutch switch on the pedal assembly, just gotta adjust that piece on it.. I forgot to...
