Ok, I have an '87 Stang GT 5.0, AOD. I just had to put a new distrib in it today so I am about to set the timing. I have a question before I go about doing this though. My book says :

Disconnect the single wire inline SPOUT connector which connects the control computer to the ignition module. This will prevent the electronic ignition from advancing the timing during the setting procedure.

Where in the heck is that?? Another thing... why does my book refer to the module on the distrib as both a TFI module and a ICM?? Aren't they two different things?
I have a Chilton repair manual I am looking at. I stopped at my local Ford dealership and they said the TFI is the same thing as the ICM.

It's a plug located near the dist. It's about 1/2" by 1/2" and usually black or grey. Disconnect it when you set timing or the ECU will try an compensate for the timing change.

Yes, usually a gray plug, located near the base of the distributor on the driver's side of it. It's at the end of a piece of wiring harness.

They are the same thing, just two different names given to the same part. Stangers just refer to it as the 'module'.
