i just completed my track heat manifold install and i need some help with the timing.

it seems the timing mark, unless im looking at the wrong things. is a PITA to get to and see well.

also it looks like the timing reads 30 and i thought it was supposed to be 10.

ive never done timing before so any help would be great

Buy a timing light, there's no easy way to set the timing without it. Also, you'll need to pull the SPOUT connector, it's right next to the passenger's shock tower near the intake hose. The computer adds timing automatically, and pulling the SPOUT tells the compute not to advance the timing.

i have a timing light, thats how i saw the 30 with the car on, also my spout connector is burried in my passanger fender wall,

is there an easy way to get it out, like is it on a single cord or is it attached to something else.

and is the timing mark the small pointer that hangs over the harmonic balancer or am i looking at the wrong thing, cause the pointer is damn neer impossable to look at and keep the timing light on it at the same time

yea my spout is in the fender wall. it looks like its taped to a larger wiring harness. suck.

so what im looking at is timing mark then, but it seems kind of odd it would read 30. unless its pulling timing at idle with the spout in

any tips for removing the fender, unless i get lucky and somhow jimmy it out im going to have to take the fender off to get at the spout connector.

you dont have to pull out the fender. its on the bottom on the passneger side inthe engine bay. the color of it is gray and its a clip. just pull it out before you rotate the distributer.

1) As far as finding your spout goes, it sounds like you're hunting in the wrong place. Check the other threads on here, there's lots of posts with pics to help you find it, and its' not that hard to get to, certainly not requiring pulling a fender (unless someone's done some major rewiring).

2) As far as actually setting your timing, it is hard to read the numbers. A trick is to take white out or one of those Schucks touchup paint pens (especially if you've got a bright color, like YELLOW), and fill in the mark that you're trying to hit when you set your timing. I just did mine for the first time on this car a few weeks ago, and I had trouble getting a straight shot at the timing indicator (can't remember what was in the way, but I couldn't shoot straight down from the top, I was off at an angle just a little). I crawled under the car (where the timing marks were when I shut the engine off, also the easiest place to reach them), and painted in the 12 degrees mark. Then when I hit it with the gun, it was very obvious what I was aiming for. Wound up bumping it to 14 degrees, but that wasn't too hard to do once I had my reference mark highlighted.

Hope this helps!

i dont know why you guys dont believe me that my spout connector happens to be in the fender. cause it is.

i just went out and adjusted my timing and set it to 14 btdc.

my spout only has like and inch or two of wire connecting it to the main wiring harness inside the fender wall .

i didnt have to take the fender off but i bent the fender liner out of the way and got to it that way
