I own a late 2000 mustang gt coupe 5 speed. Long story made short I did major bolt on like 90mm maf bbk cold air 75mm tb+plentum bassani headers xpipe no cat and catback 3.73 gears and 160 degree thermostat and SCT Livewire. My car ran rough for 4 months before I took it to get it tuned it was running extremly rich before tune. After tune it ran great got 260 hp at the wheels. Then a week ago my car decided to messup sorta like running rich but not as bad. It basically when you accerlate it hesitant then smothes out like it suppose to. I hooked up ,y livewire and checked the stf and ltf and the numbers r the same. Any suggestions im thinking its the sparkplugs are fowled up. Also I have a question. since im 260 hp at the wheels im looking into KB 2.6L supercharger but they tell me i need to build my bottom end up and me being dumb on this have no idea what to get. Better to buy another engine with everything or componets. Also would nos hurt me at my current setup i want to do either 100 or 150 shot of nos and would I need special plugs or engine stuff for it also is it a way to spray in 2nd or 3nd? As I said im kinda stupid on this stuff.

The hesitation could be plugs. Have you changed them before?

Building the bottom end would require forged internals like crank, rods and pistons. The block should be good. Tha MAF and TB are a bit much in an almost stock GT but the tune probably smoothed things out. I'm betting you have lost a bit compared to a little smaller MAF and TB. Not an issue if you plan on supercharging. Why not got with the KB 2.1? A decent tune and you will be looking at 100+ HP.

A 100 shot would be no problem. Maybe a step colder plug with nitrous.

Switch back to your stock MAF and see if that helps.

That is way too big for a N/A car. Is it a Lightning MAF?

Either way there is no need for it untill you go forced induction, they are known to cause drivability problems otherwise.

I did a tune up about 6 months before I had the problem not since then. I want at least 500-700 hp will the 2.1 get me that v 2.6 and I wanted to do heads and cams to make my car sound good. the maf is by sct and everything is tuned on a dyno by Prodyno. When I switch back to stock program the car runs so rough that it cuts off and flares. Btw I ran it at the track before tuned it ran 11 sec in a 1/4 mile after it was tuned and before I got this problem ran 9 sec flat.

You have to keep the tune that you got from prodyno in it because your stock tune wouldnt be calibrated for the maf. Mine was hesitating and it turned out to be plugs. You can get a kb but you cant run too much boost with the stock bottom end. Around 450 hp is all I would put to the stock bottom end, after that you need forged pistons, crank, and rods. You can run a 125 shot of nos with no problem but i wouldnt go over that till I forged the bottom end. Get a long block with ported heads, you can try modular powerhouse or dss racing, and have a shop install it for you. Also dont lie about your quarter mile times on here. We know too much about mustangs and what you have to believe you ran 9 sec flat:rlaugh:. You wil get more replies and help if you tell the truth. You have a mid 13 sec car at best. Good luck with your project :nice:

I mistype it i meant to put 1/8th mile. Where I live there is no 1/4 mile track so thats 9 sec in a 1/8 mile and I ran against another club member which had a newer gt w/ 4.10 gears and it was supercherged. Ill try the suggestions tommorow. Also will a long block fit my bassani headers ? Also how much does it run generally for a shop to install a longblock

Labor rates to install an engine vary.

If you want to go supercharged and run over 400rwhp safley, I would suggest you buy a SHORT block (just the block, crank, rods, pistons) and then re-use the heads on your motor now as they are in fine working order.

What you want is a forged motor, meaning the crankshaft, rods, and pistons are alot stronger and will last longer under higher HP conditions than a stock, or other non-forged motor would.

Modular Mustang Racing, Modular Powerhouse, Coast High Performance, DSS Engines are just a few of the companies that sell quality pre-assembled forged motors.

As long as you swap in another 4.6, your Bassani headers will fit fine.

I was wondering what the difference Modular Mustang Racing short blocks has over mine and since KB told me is this.
What you would need would be a 4340 steel crank like the Ford cobra
crank, H-beam rods and a lower compression forged pistons

My question is would i ever need cams and heads and if I got the shortblock or is it better to get the longblock, also im kinda consdering going from 373 gears to 410 is it worth it. Basically I want to be back on top me and this guy who has a Z28 camero been battling it out now hes got nos.

MMR builds a boost freindly short block.

It will have the forged steel Cobra crank, it will have the forged H beam rods (or I beam), and it will have forged pistons so long as you purchase the right motor for the application.

You don't HAVE to have a forged short block to run a Kenne Bell supercharger. You can be conservative on the boost and tune with the stock motor, and if it is in good condition it will last a while.

You don't need cams or heads for the blower, but they would gain you some power definatly. Its expensive though.

I would just get a shortblock and re-use your heads/cams.

For gears, i'd stick with 3.73's especially since you are wanting the KB.
