Can anyone tell me where I can buy a new ford or aftermarket left front (driver's side) spindle/steering knuckle for my 1988 mustang with 5.0 engine. I have been told the spindles are the same for the 87 thru 93 mustang and capris with 5.0 engines. The back shoulder where the rear wheel bearing seal rest on or very close to the shoulder behind it is worn out on the one on my car. This causes the back side of the rotor to rub up against the front of the spindle on the right side spindle arm. The shoulder is so badly worn the pressure between the back of the rotor and the spindle acts as an emergency brake and the car will not roll by itself on an incline with the emergency brake released. You can see and hear where the rotor is hitting/up against the spindle arm. I live in San Antonio Texas. I would appreciate everyone's help on this. I tried to buy new spindle from Ford and they tell me no longer available, ditto for every local and internet part places. I thought about installing a dissimiliar bronze or copper washer to fit the spindle and size it not to exceed the size of the inner race on the rear wheel bearing and jb weld it to the shoulder??? I also thought about a machine shop to build up the shoulder and machine finish but shops I contacted no longer do. Does anyone know what the original depth of the shoulder is/was when new?? Need same info for the radius/circurmfance of the shoulder??? If you have replaced a spindle on an 88 model 5.0 did you compress the spring before you removed the spindle. Book says you need to but if you put a jack under the frame and prop up the control arm far enough to keep the spring in its non pressure position to keep it from falling out I would think that would be a safe removal procedure!!! Need safe procedure advice please. Also if anyone knows where I can buy a good used and guarnteeded spindle for reasonable price I would appreciate if you would email me at [email protected] I hope all you guys will jump on board this and if experienced same problem or would what would you do? Naturally I already bought new rotor, bearings, and pads but need best long term fix for the spindle problem. Hope to hear from many of you on this project. Regards. Tom1
