Dayton, Oh
Hey guys, and girls - I'm new to the site - I just got a 95 mustang GT and I'm having lots of problems with it... If I ease the gas down it pulls through the gears fine... but if i stomp if like off the line - the motor seems like it doen't want to pull and the rpms flutter when they are increasing... and when I am just driving and want to get on it - there is not a lot of pull at low end... so I'm open to any suggestions and anyone to talk to ... thanks so much!!

welcome to the site.

what's your tranny, manual or auto? might wanna start w/ the basics: cleaning your MAF, IAC, changing the spark plugs/wires, dizzy, coil, rotor, advancing/retarding your timing, etc.

lots of awesome guys in here, i'm sure they'll ding in w/ a better response.

well..

Its a manual tranny - but heres a little kicker - it has new plugs and wires, coil, and distributer.... but I was told that the plugs I have aren't what I should run in a mustang... right now I have the Bosch quadra-fire... so I'm not sure if this is the problem... could this be the reason?!

I use the autolites as well... I actually run a range cooler (24's here)...

I think you need to clean your MAF... pretty easy to do with a tamper resistant t-20 torx, some q-tips and rubbing alcohol (or similar)...

Welcome to the site man, you are going to love it once you get it running right...

Head down to Advance auto store and ask them to run codes it's free. I just started working there and they are a bit cluless when it comes to the 94/95 EEC IV system. They insisted I had OBD 2 system which ALL 5.0 run off the OBD 1 no matter what they tell you we use OBD1 period. The connector is under the hood (not in the interior under the steering wheel like the OBD 2) passender side near the back fire wall you'll see the connector that reads EEC IV (just after the strut tower brace). For the scanner to work they must connect the power source to your cigarette out let or it won't read it. Good luck

I did try that but it won't read the codes unless the "check engine" light is on - and it doesn't stay on... because they said my car doesn't store codes.

I just ran codes a few days ago (see my thread sound some what like what's going on with you) with there scanner without the CE light on and it found codes. All computers store "hard fault" codes their idiots to say your puter doesn't store codes. Where they even able to run codes at all??Did they use the connector under the hood or near steering wheel?? Was it pluged into the cig lighter outlet??? They need to follow the steps I posted above.

Yeah - they used the connector under the hood on the passanger side... but they told me there was nothing there because mine doesn't store it but I'll try them again.. but they didn't use anything with the cig lighter

I want to move to the 3.73's - what all do I need to buy with that - just the gears them selves, or a new housing?

The only thing you should ensure, and you'll need, when you buy new gears, is that it comes with the small plastic speedo gear, or else your speedo will end up being completely inaccurate. No need to buy any new housings or anything.

Problem found the only way it will read codes in our cars is when it is connected to the cig outlet. With out using the cig outlet the scanner will only read "car must be connected to the DTS" of something like that. Go back and tell them they need to use the cig outlet power source.
