Need sending unit thread sizes

Searched and couldnt seem to find the answer I need. Putting some VDO oil press and water temp gauges in my car and need the npt thread sizes for the oil pressure and water temperature sending unit threads on the engine. Could just buy the kit with the adapters, but its like $10 cheaper to just buy the sending unit itself with the exact thread size. On summit's site they list them like this: 1/4-18 NPT, 3/8-18 NPT, 1/2-14 NPT If anyone knows the exact sizes, I would really appreciate it. These stock gauges are driving me nuts!!!!!

water temp : Factory sender located front pass side of intake. Uses 3/8"npt. Remove fact sender and install new sender. You will leave factory wire off. Or you may drill and tap undrilled boss at rear passenger side of intake to your desired size.

You must keep the sender and gauge married. The stock sender cannot be used with an aftermarket gauge for instance.

Your new electric gauge should come with its own sending unit (or it will have the part number listed that you need).

Your rear lower intake port might just have a brass plug in it. That makes it easier than drilling. This location isn't very accurate but neither is the stock gauge (they make a nice pair).

Thanks HISSIN, but Im getting the gauges from Summit and they do not include the sending units on VDO gauges and they dont even list the part number. The gauge is a 90 deg sweep electrical water temp and the only sending unit the have is for full sweep. Would that really make a difference? Its been so long since Ive put aftermarket gauges in a car, sorry about the stupid ?'s....

I prefer full sweep. More accurate at a glance.

It's not stupid to ask this stuff - you're smart for doing it.

As you know, the sender must match the gauge and I have the feeling that the senders for full and non-full sweep electrics are different (though I dont know myself).

I would contact both VDO and Summit and find out. It's good to have duplicity in replies so you're sure you're getting the correct parts.

Alternate placement for a temp gauge sender: Use the heater feed that comes off the intake manifold. Cut the rubber hose that connects the manifold water feed to the heater and splice in a tee adapter for the temp gauge sender. Be sure to use the same water feed line as the ECT sensor. That way you will get the most accurate temp readings.

Tee adapter info:
Make a pilgrimage to your local hardware or home supply center and get some copper pipe and a tee that fits the temp gauge sender. Solder two pieces of copper pipe onto a copper pipe tee with threads in the tee part. Find the correct brass fitting to match the temp sender threads to the tee fitting.

what car has a temp sender on the passenger side of the intake the majority of mustangs i see have it on the front of the DRIVERS side... the passenger side is the Engine temp coolant sender for the computer..... the gauge sender is on the drivers side

you do not want to use the EGR coolant port on the passenger rear of the intake. It will give you inaccurate readings. If you want to keep your stock water temp gauge ( Lord knows why) then get a thermostat housing with a NPT fitting in it and screw your aftermarket sending unit there.
