I tearing down my 347 tomorrow and I know I have a thrown rod bearing. What is the steps to correct the problem.....rods fixed crank ground if needed new bearings? not shure what to have checked or fixed besides new bearings. what would this aprox cost to have done......or am I on the wrong track here. just get a new 347 rotating assy.

thanks in advance:shrug:

Grind the crankshaft journals in the opposite direction it normally rotates in the engine, then polish it in the same direction it rotates in the engine. Also make sure you get thicker bearings for whatever journal was ground. Shouldnt be more than a couple hundred bucks.

Until you tear it down and determine the cause of the failure, it's tough to say what you will need to do.

Try and get some good digi pics of the bearings and post back here. Their condition will tell alot.

fix it!!

after tear down.. have the crankshaft mic'd and turned IF Need be! Have the rod mic'd ( big end) and resized if need be.. low mileage, then you MIGHT re use the ring set.. IF not.. then the rings.. correct bearings .. gaskets and your back up and rocking for about 300-350.00!! Re balance isnt needed if they grind the crankshaft .010 cool??

Just me....................................
