need some advice from the experienced

I have been waiting awhile to post this because im lazy and have been thinking about it alot. well, tomrow i am going to look at a 69 mach. The 390 is original and he has all the original parts. so far i know it is drieveable and the guy is good friends with a mustang resto shop owner i know. The guy i know is going to look at the car with me. he's asking 5,550 for it and im planning on getting like 4500 for mine on ebay and i have some cash already. But here is my plan. Im going to school in jan and will be doing a ground up resto. But this is my senior year and i want to have some fun this summer. So i want something real badass to drive. So, i want to just do some body work, just the major stuff and maybe paint it primer black with some 50's pinstriping detail. Keep the 390 in it and just clean it up. Well this is what im planning on but i need some q's answered.
(please dont rip me apart lmao its just my ideas)
1. Iv heard primer will rust even when garage kept
2. Will flat black paint rust too then?
3. could i start buildin the suspension now even though i am going to take it apart next year?
4. if i rebuild the engine is it still considered 'original'???
Thanks for reading this guys, if you have any input lemme know cause this is only my second car and i have some crazy ideas that might not work.

In order...

1. Primer itself will not rust, but it does not seal the metal from moisture so the metal will rust underneath it.

2. Paint (if applied correctly) does seal out moisture. Think twice about putting a coat of paint on top just to come back later and strip it off. Stripping a car to metal is one of the nastiest and most time consuming job there is, why make it harder for yourself?

3. Sure, been there done that. Just plan on replacing the bushings when you attach it the second time.

4. There are many definitions of original. Technically no, but I seriously doubt that it is still just the way it came from the factory 35 years ago. One way of looking at it is that if you rebuild it using factory specs and FoMoCo parts then it is close enough to be called original.

Oxide primer should seal the metal from moisture. I've used red oxide on many old cars with no rust build up at all, maybe use red oxide first, then black hot rod primer on top of it, or maybe there is such a thing as black oxide primer?

Epoxy primer can be left unpainted with no fear of rusting underneath, I don't know of any other primer that can. Rebuilding the suspension is never a bad idea, regardless of your plans for the future. As far as the engine being considered original, I wouldn't get too hung up on that. As far as I'm concerned it's still original if the block and heads came in the car and the motor is stock, whether it's been rebuilt or not.

Zoo is right. Stay away from laquer primer if you want rust protection. It is for spray today, paint tomorrow applications.

So the epoxy primer in black if there is such a thing and i guess i will leave the enigne alone the way it is and just do really good maintenance on it. Well i was supposed to look at the car tonight but the gy had stuff to do. So I won't get to see it till next thursday when i get back from nashville. I'm so anxious...my dream car awaits and there is nothing i can do for another week!

Is this an original 390 car? If it's an "S" code, it is more valuable restored, or slightly restomodded, since it is a factory "big block" car. Check the VIN when you look at it.

the guy said it is an orig 390 big block and it IS an S code! Im so excited i am going to look at it next thursday. The guy is iffy about selling it now i will have to pry it out of his hands. Its sooo not fair hough. he's had at least three machs in the past two years! This will be my fifth year looking!
