Need some heat...

Hi,

For some reason my heat stopped working this morning. Well, the air comes out hot but only blows out from the defrost regardless of what setting it's on. Anyone ever have this happen to them? Where would I begin to look?

Thanks,
Demetrios

You got a vacuum leak somewhere. All those valves that control which vents the air comes out of run on vacuum. The selection switch is a vacuum switch. Check under the hood, as that is most likely where the problem is. There is a small vacuum line that comes off the vacuum tree on the drivers side, runs along the top of the firewall, and goes through the firewall around where the AC and heater hoses are. If that line isn't damaged, or hasn't fallen off, check the vacuum lines under the dash. You can pull your AC controls out and you will see vacuum lines there. They are mutlicolored plastic hoses, red, green, yellow, etc. Those vacuum hoses go to all the different valves on the HVAC box. I imagine the line has broken or come off somewhere between the engine and the switch, if none of the functions work.

Thanks for the info Kurt. Man, it sure wasn't fun driving with my face hot and feet freezing today. I'll pop the hood and take a look tomorrow morning.

Thanks again,
