Need Some Help From The Cobra Crowd!!!

alright, i know my car isnt an svt....its a 96 gt with nothing more than a few bolt ons and gears. question i do have though is this.....i am hoping to be able to pick up a 4V motor this later summer or fall. i am guessing there isnt a big difference between the 96-01, but the 03/04 have cast iron blocks and forged internals, correct me if i am wrong. what are my options when it comes to modding the motor without digging deep into the internals? i want to get as much n/a power out of it as possible and eventually put a power adder on it. i have no idea what kind of compression ratio those motors have so if you could help me out that would be greatly appreciated!!!!

If you aren't going to s/c it you don't need all of the expensive forged internals of an 03/04. The 96-98 original engine lower halves were made in Italy by Teskid and are proclaimed to be the best SVT ever used. They say they are able to handle over 800hp. However the heads on them are a swirl type and are not as good for n/a as they are to s/c'd. The 01 is probably the best for what you want.

so are there any suggestions you have as far as heads go? i think i would be able to find a 4V out of a 96-98 car more easily than a newer one. how would the heads perform with a port and polish and with new valvetrain and some nice cams? i know that the 2V upgraded heads are awesome when they are port and polished with a power adder....

The B heads are what are on the 96-98 Cobra's. These heads flow well, but lack Velocity which is why they have no bottom end. If you are going NA and can choose, stay away from these. The best are the Marauder/Mach 1/03-04 Cobra Heads. Those flow as well or better and have better velocity.

I have a friend with a 97 Cobra with ported B heads and 5.4 cams making 315 rwhp....I have another friend with a 03 Mach 1 with ported heads from the same shop making 340 with a tune...and cams.

01 Heads are good...they are tumble port as well as the others....You also want to stay away from the IMRC's.

I know what they are, but not sure of the acronym....I believe it is Individual Manifold Runner Controls.

They are the "butterflies" in half of the intake ports that don't open up until 3250 rpm. This was the 96-98's way of keeping some low end power/Tq with the 4V.

99+ did not have them. You can get a delete kit, but it it is not tuned right, you will have power and drivability problems...

^werd the 03/04 heads are the best for na aplications. Another option is to get a 96-98 and sell the heads intake ect and get 03/04 heads manifolds ect. Best of both worlds
