I want to know if my engine compartment is bent or what. So what would be the angles of the engine? There are some things bent that make me believe that it might have been hit in the pass. font corner

Secondly, what trans went with the 390FE?

I have pics of the engine compartment that I will post in a day or so, need to get them developed.

and, how to open the trunk when locked...Yeah it is kinda a stupid question but don't really want to mess things up more than it already is.

My car is kinda a piece, but I get tired of people saying that its **** and why did you buy it. Yeah it is going to take a lot of time, and money but I didn't expect to get this done in a month yeah know. Just got to take it slow. and the car isn't as bad as I have seen others, yet they get fixed up.

the 390 came with either a cruise-o-matic(pre 1966), a C6(post 1965), or a top loader 4spd. not sure about engine angles, but if you pick up a shop manual for your car, it will tell you what measurements you need to look for to tell if the engine compartment is square or not. if you can remove the rear seat, you should be able to get to the trunk lock. use a pair of needle nose pliers, and locate the lock itself. you will see the rod that operates the lock. turn this rod with the pliers and the trunk should pop open. then you can either replace, or repair the trunk lock. and dont let people who are jealous of your owning a vintage car get you down. invest some time and money on your car, assuming you like it enough to do so, and restore the car as you like. and tell the morons to bugger off.

As to the appearance of the engine compartment, it would be a simple matter to compare yours with another similar car in good condition. A "bent" compartment would be best be deternined by such a comparison or measurements based on factory specs. See the Ford assembly manual.
