Need some help

When I bought my 87 gt the guy said the guy he got it from said he had the termec transmission in it, so I trusted him. A couple weeks ago a guy was sitting in it and said I had a t-5. How can I tell? what can I do to see what type of transmission I have. Thanks for any advice

All the late model T5's say Tremec on them. TTC (aka Tremec) bought up the Borg-Warner transmission manufacturing business.

Pull the shift boot off, and count the shifter bolts. The T5 only has four, the big Tremecs have six.
