Need some help!!!

I am in the market to rebuild my rear end completely. I have in mind 5-lug 31 spline axles with a spool. I need help with what axles I should go with along with the spool. Should I spend the money for a moser or strange spool or just go for a summit brand? I have 4-lug right now so I would be switching to 5-lug. The car is stored for winter so I am not looking for a full 5-lug conversion, I am only interested in the rear end right now. If someone could offer any help I would appreciate it. What is a c-clip eliminator and do they only work on drum brake applications. I have drum brakes right now and plan on keeping them for a while, but plan on converting to disk possibly. If someone could help out, that would be great. What is a c-clip and should I be looking at an axle set with axles with a c-clip eliminator, spool, wheel studs. Im sorry it may be confusing but I need some help, I dont know much about all this stuff
Thanks

A c clip eliminator allows you to remove your axle shafts with removing the diff. cover and dumping fluid all over yourself or the floor. To my understanding, not a good option if you plan on doing alot of drag racing though. Regarding purchasing as a set, it'd be easier that way, but not necessary unless it saves you $$

The purpose is to eliminate the weak c-clip retention system for the axles and instead bolt them to the axle housing -- so if you snap an axle it shouldn't come flying out. It is intended PRIMARILY for drag racing, not good for road racing because of the addition sideloads from what I understand. they are not compatible with disc brake kits.

As for who's to buy, I would say Strange (I've been happy with them). They're priced nicely in a package -- but you will still need to finalize your plans before cutting your axle tubes and building the rear -- only to want c-clip eliminators.

Thanks! I new it was drag or road, but didn't remember which! :nice:

Sorry, my turn to pick on you. :D So, you're saying that C-clip eliminator axles are not compatable with disc brakes?

I see that now -- first one I've ever seen like that. I don't know anything about it -- so I can't really say anything, except that I am a little surprised.

Just messin' with ya' These are new products, so not many have heard of them. Time to get rid of those ol' drums and get some real brakes.

I'm glad you pointed it out, I'm obviously not on the up and up with everything. HOWEVER, I looked into it more and Strange's c-clip eliminators have two versions now (I didn't remember that offered before), some with bearings suitable for drag racing only, some with bearings suitable for drag/oval/street use. The kicker is, they all say "Except for truck & disc brakes."

Okay, so the car will be driven on weekends on street and at the track mostly every wednesday. If I understand correctly, I would be looking for axles that have c-clips.
Im still a little confused but think I am getting the hang of it now.
Thanks for the help

Basically, it's going to be up to what you want to do with the car.

Given the conflicting information about brakes and c-clip eliminators, etc. -- I would want to call and talk to Strange or Moser and see what they have to say about it. If you can do it all, I probably would -- but I'd hate to see you build the rear only to find out you can't use the brakes you want.
