need some ideas...new fuel pump, ran for 1 min then shut off.....

so i finished install on a new pump and filter....car started right up then shut a minute later as i tried raising the rpms....would not fire again....

I heard the pump prime everytime i put the ignition on so i can only think of two things and two ways to test......first is, the pump is slightly different from my old one and i only have about 2 gallons in the car...maybe it's not picking up fuel..so i will try to add more...

reason two would be something is clogged or pinched...maybe a small amount of dirt got in the tank?!?! and filter has stopped it?!?! so i was thinking...I guess i will try to attach a hose to the "leaving" end of the fuel filter and put the other end in a bucket while my g/f turns on the ignition...if there's no problem i should see fuel going to the bucket right? (no idea if some sensor would stop fuel from going in this situation though)

any help or suggestions or things to test would be great.....thanks!!

What kind of pump was it?

you might just have an airblock in the line... does the pump make a high pitch or low pitch whine when you turn the key on?

pump is a walbro.....

it was making what i thought to be a rather high pitched sound when first turning the ignition on and also when it was running for the first min or so.......I thought it sounded a little strange but i can't say i remember what the old one sounded like.

any way for me to test the system specifically for this and/or correct it? since i can't run it to depressurize the system can i just unplug a line...say one on the fuel filter and that do the trick????

(really don't want to take her to a dealer)

Look at as much of the fuel line as you can first before you depressurize. You may find a kink of collapse. The disconnect the fuel filter and allow it to release the pressure.

I don't think you have dirt in the pump but what I am wondering did you install the fuel filter with the right direction in flow? I can't remember if it can connect only one way or not.

what year car is it?

try cycling the key a couple times to hear if the pump keeps priming and to see if it changes the pitch of the sound of the pump

filter is installed with the correct flow direction.....

everytime I turn on the ignition it's the same higher pitch whine than i think was there with my previous pump......

I really appreciate your guys help....any more ideas would be great too....I'm going to go to storage tomorrow and give her another shot....report back here..

1. will add about 3 more gallons of gas to see if it's just that the pump possibly sits higher ?!?! unless you guys think that's not a possibility.

2. check for kink

3. remove line and let pressure release....hopefully this does it......

The amount of gas in the tank shouldn't be a factor unless it is uncommonly dirty.
