I searched and couldn't find what i was looking for. Anyway, i changed my 90 lx from aod to a tremec 3550. I hooked everything up, but i was talking to a guy today that said i need a neutral sensing switch. Does the tremec have this switch? Also would a 4 cylinder car have this? Thanks

for a standard the neutral saftey switch is so that you cannot start car unless the clutch is engaged. i know the one end conects to the starter relay the little stud between the 2 main posts. and i figure there is some other switch on the clutch pedal itself.

Correct terminology helps. An automatic has a neutral safety switch. A stick has a clutch safety switch.

You obviously did any rewiring to close the starter interlock circuit so you can start the car. And now you want to add the safety feature of a clutch safety switch like 86 BC talked about?

The connector should be buried above the clutch pedal somewhere. Get the clutch safety switch and mount it and hook up the wiring. If you car wont start afterwards, check the adjustment of the switch.
My two cents.
Good luck.

I think he may be talking about the neutral safety switch thats mounted to the tranny itself. The switch on the tranny wont allow the car to start unless the shifter is in neutral. All the wires are there from the AOD in order to hook it up correctly. The 3550 I rebuilt had the neutral safety switch on it so im sure the one you're getting will have it also. On the 3550 the switch is back near the shifter cover.

The neutral sense switch or neutral gear switch is indeed near the shifter. There
are actually two switches in the circuit wired in parallel to each other. If it is
miswired or defective, you can't get the computer to dump the Key On Engine
Running (KOER) codes. Both switches must be set in order to dump the KOER
codes. It is a separate circuit from the clutch safety switch that prevents you
from starting the car unless the clutch pedal is depressed.
