Only thing really is to remove the air silencer. But then, there's mixed opinions about that.....

Exactly. Before pulling the silencer, do a search and review the wars. I personally vote for keeping the silencer in but that is just my opinion. About the only truly free mod is antenna shortening ... whoopee ...

Yep all Mustang mods are expensive. Unless somebody is smart enough to find the Steeda warehouse and steal everything and then distribute it to Stangnet for free...........

They are right...the only free mods that add hp are...
Remove air silencer - 15 rwhp
Chop antenna in half - reduced drag(feels like 10rwhp)
and STICKERS!! - 7rwhp PER sticker

LOL, but seriously...check these sites out...

With the engine off, push your gas pedal to the floor. Hold it down with a brick. Check your throttle. Sometimes flooring the pedal doesn't open your throttle up all the way. If not, check this out http://www.mustangworld.com/ourpics/fcar/99pedals.htm.

There are a few more mods on that site you might consider.

free mods

being a poor teenager when i bought my car (and still now), there are many free/cheap mods u can do that i have discovered. however, most of them are just cosmetic/look mods. heres a list of what ive done:

Painted Caliper
costs like $7 for high temp paint from Autozone and just looks really good. did mine in red. jack up the car, remove tire, tape off area not to be painted, clean caliper really well, spray on about 4-6 coats (20 min between coats)

Lowered Windshield Wipers
just a cleaner look. pull the tab loose under the base of the wipers, then pull of the wipers and swivel them to lower.

Removed Air Silencer
didnt really notice a difference, buy theoretically it just sounds more efficient. the silencer is the rubber piece that comes out of the airbox and into the fender wall. removing it leaves a bigger hole for better airflow.

Removed MAF Screen
just remove the screen between the MAF and the airbox. noticed a little loss in low end tq, but i think i made up for it in top end power. plus, i think i got a little tq to spare, especially w/ my 4.10s

Removed Rear Trunk Emblems
just for a cleaner look. i used sturdy fishing line and "sawed" off the double sided tape. the GT emblem has no holes behind it, but the ford badge does. i just used some clear silicone adhesive to fill in the holes, and then some touch-up paint from Ford (like $8 for the dinky 1.5 oz) looks good from a distance, and you really have to stick your face up close in order to see the touch-up paint.

What I Havent Done

Moved Back Rear Spoiler
i think its only for 99-00 GTs, but i could be wrong. anyway, it requires drilling holes in your trunk, which im not too fond of, so this can wait.

Shortened Antennea
i would, but i think it would give me crummy reception on my radio

thats all i can think of for now. www.mustangworld.com has some good ideas too. have fun w/ the new stang!

if you remove the air silencer and screen. you run the risk of running lean. read this in a review.

You can port and polish your intake plenum and throttle body with a dremel... be prepared to work on it for a couple of hours..

how do u think the C&L MAF makes its power? it and the stock MAF are the same size. 76mm i believe. it just leans u out a little. just like the removal of the screen and silencer. its not enough to hurt the engine, just enough for a little power

do you really want to talk about the c&l? DONT REMOVE THE SCREEN!!. Free mods are so so.

I would start with weight reduction:
-remove the dog bone next to the diff
-remove the sway bar if you dont care about turning
-remove everything from the trunk
-rear seat delete
-remove tailpipes and clamp on/weld on some turndowns

with that weight reduction you should pick up a over 1 mph in the 1/4.

Now whenever you get some spare coin. surf the classified's on the various sites. you could do most of the basic boltons(pullies, timing adjuster, midpipe) to your car for $400-500(not including gears), if you can do your own install(which the directions to do everything are meticulously posted on the web in various spots)
