Well I got the plug back in, just got to close her up and I should be good, after looking at the camshaft retention plate was wondering why they don't make them with 2 tabs on them to help keep the plugs in, if my MIG welder was working I would fab one up and not have to worry about it.

Well got her buttoned up and took it for a drive, ran and drove fine, had great oil pressure so decided to gas it and the pressure instantly dropped again, how do I go about tapping them to put in the screw in plugs , I'm almost at the point that im gonna take it to the shop and have them do it this time. I have a full tap set, is it something I could do in my garage, just make sure none of the shavings fall in the pan.

Yes, you can send a 1/4 NPT (pretty sure that's the size-might be wrong though) tap into it and install a plug in your garage-like you said though-just gotta be very aware of debris from the tap...I suppose if you pack it with grease (like doing a blower oil drain line) to retain the chips produced during the tapping, you'd be good.

Taking it back to the machine shop is probably the safest way and least likely to leave crap in the block, but also the most time consuming and expensive.

Just out of curiosity, when you put the new plug in, did you seal it and stake it?

Yes, it was sealed and staked, I have 9 days of vacation I need to use so I will probably start on it again next weekend.

Do you plan to yank it out and send it to the shop, or do it in the engine bay?

I ended up threading mine in the car with the previously mentioned method of using a tap packed with grease. It worked great and there have not been any more issues. When i had this issue i was told i could find a deeper plug with more surface area to seat and smear jb weld on the seat area to help it hold along with punching the block with a screwdriver/chisel but that sounded like a bandaid fix so i threaded it.

Staked and properly seated they usually stay in...what oil pressure are you running?

1/4"NPT is correct, pack the fkutes with grease as mentioned and make sure no debris stays in the passage way...kind of hard to clean out unless you fully break the motor down. Check to make sure the 1/4" NPT plug clears the distributor gear

mine was 40-75/80ish and it was fine when i first started it and let it idle, but as soon as i hit the throttle it started chattering and started my search for the issue.

Well, it lost pressure again, pulled the timing cover and timing gears to find the plugs are all still in this time, any other plugs i should look for or maybe the oil pump went, i think im gonna pull the engine and tear it all the way apart and thread all the plugs and install a new pump, what's the best pump to install, I had a walbro m-60 or 61 just a stock pump pretty much, but I want the best there is this time since I have to redo all of it. And I don't want to do it again, 3rd time now.

Melling M68 is stock...Melling 10687 is their performance pump, standard pressure.

3 plugs up front, 3 plugs in rear...1 plug in lifter valley.

If I can help let me know.....
