Guys and Gals, I have a few questions about my 96 GT if someone could help me out that would be great, I went through and gave it a tune up today and changed all the fluids, question 1 is oil capacity how much does it hold? The book said 5 quarts with filter but it did not even show up on the stick, it took six and is still a half a quart down according to the stick, whats the deal here? Second is the middle two plugs on the drivers side were rusty on the outside, like water had got down around them and dried and rusted, what could have caused this? there is no evidence of anything leaking from the intake area at all, so whatever it was it happened quite some time ago, Anything else i need to know or be aware of with this car, again it is a 96 GT vert with 5 speed and 55k miles thanks for the help Dan

i always put 5 quarts in my car. it's an 'o2

oil shows up on the dipstick on mine. but from what i've read, they're not very accurate.
also, it's better to be a quart low than a quart too high

as for the plugs, water probably did get on them. just someone using too much water to clean the engine

With the oil i go by what i see. As for the water in the sparks plugs it can be either cleaning the motor with water or cracked intake.

Six quarts in your 96. Ford sent a revision but obviously the previous owner didn't stick it to the appropriate page. As far as the spark plugs it was probably just water that found it's way into the cavity.

You may want to make sure you have the correct dipstick for the car. I have heard about a few issues with the marking on various model dipsticks being incorrect. I hope this helps.

My '98 GT has always and still does, take exactly 6 quarts of oil.

Your car at one time may have had the infamous "cracked intake". And that may be where the rust came from. Hopefully the previous owner took care of that problem.
