Well, I sold the twin turbo 91 GT and got me a new Kona blue 2012 mustang gt with the brembo brakes and 3.73 rear end. Basically that was the only options I ordered. Far mor streetable than the twin turbo '91, better clutch feel, better handling, more stable over bumps (in louisianna all we have is bad road). So far I love the car, and have put 1400 miles on it in 4 days . I will probably beat the snot out of it for 25K miles before modding it. The only issue i have had is on a cooler morning it i got on it and traction control came on and hit the brakes to the back wheels pretty hard which caused a nasty shudder and a loud clunking, but as soon as it got itself under control, it was a rush of acceleration. I think the tsc is a bit too aggresive.

Not sure if you know this - but there is another option with the trac settings that I like. If you press the break, and the ATC control twice quickly, it switches to "minimal" sport mode. In this setting it won't kick in until you are going sideways I suspect.

I just picked up the same spec car (convertible) and also not a huge fan of the aggressive atc - I think it effs up the off the line acceleration.

yeah I found the sport mode after the incident. Its a pain to get it to actually come on. Half the time it skips over to just traction off and advance trac on. In any case I have learned that just turning it off works best if you intend to modulate the throttle yourself.

Here she is...it was cloudy and sprinkling so not the best picture.

TSC really actuated the brakes?

I don't think so - but I'm pretty sure it impacts your throttle control. Th car behaves very differents with TSC off - and not just in stability, but in overall drivefeel.

Yeah, I'm pretty sure it's throttle control based on wheel spin.

may have been a massive power cut, the car immediately slowed, shuttered bad with a loud clunk from the back, and i was on my way again. The whole episode was maybe half a second. The car does act a bit different with TSC off. I have to work harder to keep the car from spinning wildly, but its definately more fun then having the computer control it. With it off and acting like an idiot it will spin all the way through 1st and 2nd and bark the tires hard in 3rd. Probably the funest car i have driven in a while. Not the fastest, but defiantely the most enjoyable.

Actually doing a bit of reading and it appears the traction control system in the mustang is an all speed system. In order to be all speed it must be able to retard timing, cut fuel, and apply brakes. The mustang apparently does apply the brakes when there is extreme wheelspin in addition to the other two methods. I was pretty sure I could feel braking.

That surprises me that they would have it apply the brakes. Doesn't seem like the safest thing to do but I'm sure their lawyers gave the OK beforehand.

The shudder in the rear you felt was probably axle hop. And at the same time you felt the TC shutting down the engine. S197s have axle hop problems and sometimes it can be pretty bad. I would get a set of after market rear lower control arms. They will make the next 25K miles of beating the snot out of your car a lot more fun.
And btw congrats on the new car!

Some good info in here. Didn't know about the different traction settings, and the axle hop problem.

Very good information indeed. Would you have a recomendation on a set of lower control arms that can eliminate the wheel hop?

I never have traction control on. I think it's better to just learn to drive properly. On my 07 it won't cut power until you're already sideways and that's a dangerous time to be cutting power. It also doesn't sound like its very good for the car. Neither does it look or sound very cool when it comes on. I've made it a habit to always turn it off as soon I start the car before I drive anywhere

I never worry about, heck prob cause most the time I drive my car like an old man anyways. I could of got away with a v6 since it's my daily driver, but I like having all that power just sitting ther for if I need. Nothing worst than trying to pass a car and it feels like forever

This may help clarify how Traction Control works:

Excessive wheel spin is controlled in two ways, which may work separately or in tandem, engine traction control and brake traction control. Engine traction control works to limit drive-wheel spin by momentarily reducing engine power. Brake traction control works to limit wheel spin by momentarily applying the brakes to the wheel that is slipping.

No need to worry, the systems were thoroughly tested during the manufacturing process.

Same here. I turn it off. Having it off for long stretches you start to really notice how much it impacts throttle control not just at launch but throughout the powerbands of the different gears.

There are a number of aftermarket LCAs out there. Any of them will be an improvement over the factory arms. I have these:J&M Extreme Joint Mustang Lower Control Arms (05-12 GT, V6, GT500) at AmericanMuscle.com - Free Shipping! and am very happy with them, they completely eliminated my axle hop.
