new alternator question

It's the 3G alternator, one wire hookup, I believe it came on 94-95 GT's, rated at 130amps, and can be found for around $100 including warranty from any Vatozone or Napa

The powermaster that I'm running has a black thermal coating, but it is also offered with the natural finish. The reason I chose the coating was because Summit did not carry the natural finish alternators and the coated one was still cheaper than the natural finish offered from streetortrack.com

Noob--Thanks! That's good to know. Does the voltage regulator or anything else have to be swapped out? I run my AC, my radio-loud-and my headlights and the radio flicks off. I gotta assume it is the power. I have a rebuilt, although old, alternator and all I could find in higher amps were chromed like a blender and that doesn't go with my car. (One more thing to polish.)

Yes that is my alternator, you will not need to replace the regulator, but you will need to tie back or remove the stock wires that run to the regulator. I removed my old regulator completely, btw one wire alternators are internally regulated.

Since I've replaced the alternator I tested it out, I do not have an electric fan (clearance with a 4 row rad > me) but with the Crane electronic ignition conversion, AC on, heater on, headlights, courtesy lights, and my stereo (fused at 50 amps and haven't popped that yet somehow) the alternator was able to supply the car fine w/o the battery hooked up. Well untill my finger slipped and I maxed out the volume on my CD player right when the bass hit... that was interesting...

Another thing to consider. When they say a alternator puts out 60 amps or whatever, thats the maximum output. I bet at idle it puts out half that. Just go ahead and spend a little $$ and put in the 3g or other higher amp unit.
