New bill in California to end smog exemption

there's a new bill A.B 2683 that will stop the Cali 30 year rolling exemption at 1975 and older. With 1976 and newer model year having to continue the biennial smog checking. Since I own a 76 cobra you can see that I'm a bit nervous about this passing to law. Especially since this does not effect the "real classic" car owners it am may slip by cause of lack of interest.

I am pleading that all cali residents help the cause. I have sent letters and emails to all the senators, assembly people and the govenator. Heres a website for more info

Yeah Oregon was a 30 year rolling deal that turned sour aswell. I think about 6-8 years ago they went to '76 and newer tested across the board. Meanwhile Washington State was 68-up tested in only 3-4 counties, until about 5 years ago they made it a rolling 25 or older is exempt.
When i lived in New Mexico(Bernalillo County -Albuquerque), they had it locked in at '74-up must test. The rest of the state was exempt.

Though if you really stand back and look at it and the requirements certian years must meet (Emissions testing is broken up into groups corresponding in age) the minium requirements are really easy to reach. I was going to school for being a Auto Tech abuout the time they came in hard and heavey for the testing, and really, it wasn't hard to pass a car as long as it ran good, properly maintained and in tune. And besides....we had (and still have) our tricks up our sleeves.

The visual is the worst. Last three tests I had to go test only and those guys live hassle me and find anything out the norm. At least I got them this last time. "Yes thats the stock cam and yes there was a 4 cat option in 76". hehe

Nevertheless even if the rolling 30 keeps going I'm not going to make a fire breathing dragster that brings you to tears as you smell it's fumes. I just want some performance daily driver that will still run cats. I can't stand smelling a non cat car. ran mine without for two years and was glad I had to put them back. Gave me headaches. Other than that the rest of the 70's voodoo emissions equipment can go on the self to rot away instead of in my engine bay.

Oh yeah forgot about visuals. Dont; have them in WA (at least not down here) Not sure about Oregon, I think maybe open hood on vehicles 10 years and newer. In New Mexico, full rubber glove inspection.... talk about a real bummer.
