Aight, so i have a new 5.0 engine block. I am back to thinking about what i should build: 331 or keep it stock. To start out with, i'm on a budget. I was a full time student only working part time, now that is is summer im back to full time and starting to save up the paychecks. Secondly, this car is my daily driver so i want to be fast but also reliable. I wanted to get opinions and also any tips you have. I have two plans I will list. For both set-ups i plan on using the trick flow h/c/i kits.

Plan 1- Get the block machined, get a 331 stroker kit, tirck flow h/c/i kit. What i need help on is what type of stroker kit should i be looking at(forged or not, flat top pistons or dished, etc) Also does anyone know where to get a good stroker kit at a good (budget) price? (websites and part number would be helpful) Secondly, is the trick flow track heat kit emissions legal. I live in california and this is my daily driver, have to pass the smog tests. Most likely stay n/a, would like to supercharge when have the money.

Plan 2- Use the block how it is. Buy some really good internals, do the trick flow kit(street or track heat?), some other bolt ons, eventually supercharge.

Basically, im building an engine on the side seeing that i need my car as a daily driver. I have been trying to decide which way to go as the block just sits waiting. I have posted threads before on this, but that was before i had the block and money saved. So any help is greatly appreciated. I know others have been in the same situation. Along with opinions or other recommendations, part numbers are also helpful. Thanks to all!

I also have a block sitting in my garage. What kind of block do you have ?

Supercharging a H/C/I 331 might be a bit much for a stock block, if that is what you (like me) have.

I calculated doing a 306 and a 331. THe prices are very comparable when doing a ground-up build. The internals are right around the same price. Depending on how big you want to go, its the top end that adds up.

Sorry about the whole California thing...:nice:

Its a new 5.0 block. So you think a 306 supercharged would work better for a budget minded person. I was thinking maybe just get nice internals, the trick flow kit, some more boltons and then think about a supercharger. I don't mind saving up more money to do the 331 but you mentioned on a stock block, h/c/i and a supercahrger would be too much. Also, do you anything about those trick flow top end kits? Is the track heat emissions legal? Thanks for the help, im going to need it.

IMO a supercharged 306 is gonna cost you more than a 331, because getting a supercharger also requires you to get all the other stuff to make it work optimally (fuel & air delivery) whereas a 331 is up to you as to how big you want to go.

How much are you looking to spend ? Talk to Rick91gt, i've heard nothing but good from him. If you search for some of his posts, he has a link for his website, I think its called RHM performance...
