Im getting a 98 explorer motor with 55,000 miles on it from my uncle for $650 complete. Here are my plans for the engine nothing ratical since its a DD. I want to keep the compression ratio at 9.5:1 so if I add a turbo later I can.

Federal Mogul engine rebuild kit
Hone and bath the block
Have the pistons cleaned
Balanced and Blueprint the shortblock
Steeda #19

Now for the Heads - GT-40P:

3 angle valve job
Pocket work
New valves 1.85 and 1.55
New Trick flow spring kit and new valves and seals
1.7 Crane Cobra RR

Now for the Intake:

increase runner #5 and #2 for better flow

The rest of my combo is going to be:

#24 injectors
65mm TB with EGR delete plate
C&L 76mm MAF with Polished Inlet Tube
BBK LT Headers with locking header bolts
MSD Spark Plug wires cut-to-fit with 90* boots
Custom Catted H-Pipe
Dynomax ultra flow mufflers
Hardened Pushrods
New Double roller timing chain

Tell me what you guys think?

Ok i dont know if its just me or not but if you allready have a331 that is using oil why would you want to switch to a explorer notor ? just wondering to me it seems odd to spend that kind of money on freshening up a stock motor when you can do the same thing with the 331.

I bought the motor used and it had problems that took me 2 years to fix. Also I dont know what has been done to this motor at all and I dont like the fact that the 331's use that much oil. I have always loved a 302 bc they last forever and I have always wanted to do a "302 right" plus the motor will be almost free after I sell the whole motor to my friend or part it out

I agree, I would rebuild th 331. Could just need some new piston rings. What heads are on that 331?

They don't burn oil.. unless something is wrong.

Do it right and you wont have a problem. end of story.

What will be the better cam the TFS stage 1 or the Crane 2031 for a lowend power car? The will be only street driven so I need something that will have the most torque with my combo listed above.

As with this build Im looking to get LT bc of the Spark Plug issue. What are some the best headers I was thinking BBK? Also do you still need to get 90* boots for the wires too?
