new car couple small problems

Just got an 02 GT, seems like both seatbelts have a wierd twist to them that ford wanted to be there, it inhibits the seatbelts from retracting into the column properly.

the passanger side needs to be hand fed, is there anything I can replace like some sort of recoil spring or am i stuck with that?


The car has 100K on the clock, can I change the plugs myself or is this like my 5.4 motor in the truck that really should be done by a professional due to the head stripping or something like that.
if so what plugs should I run.

mods are cai and borla exhaust so really no mods

Yes change them use NGK TR6 gapped .054

Do the plugs yourself , this way you know they are done right , to many stories of guy having the plugs done at a shop and then having a plug pop , and it would not be a mustang if the seatsbelts didn't have to be hand fed back in !

My driverside belt has a weird 1/2 twist in it that makes it seem like it's sitting wrong no matter which way you flip it. It doesn't retract strongly on its own, you have to help it along some of the time and that 1/2 twist adds extra friction which makes it worse.

The passenger belt wants to spontaneously twist up and fold and then jam up in the upper anchor guide - I can't figure out why or how it does it, but the rare occasion someone does ride in the car with me, the belt is invariably folded in half and stuck up there despite the fact that I straighten it out each time.

Anyway, the retractors are known for getting weak over time and I believe you can replace the retractor assemblies to take care of that.

You can change the spark plugs yourself too but you do need to be careful (as with any aluminum head engine) and follow Ford's procedures for torquing them down. The truck's 5.4L heads are more-or-less the same so you can change them too if you up for it on the Mustang - use a torque wrench and follow the procedures.

thanks for the help guys these seat belts are f'ed up why they have that twist in them is beyond me but I guess I will live it.

Im pretty sure the guy before me installed a spec clutch b/c it chaters the warmer it gets I hate spec

The twist in the seatbelt you can probably fix yourself. The lower end of the belt is held by a hefty torex bolt. Just remove that bolt, turn the belt around to be streight (along with flipping the plastic molding to be correct) and bolt it back together. Being pertinant to your safety, it may be a good idea to find out the correct torque spec and use a torque wrench.

yeah i already removed the bolt but the twist is so that you would have to mount the belt backwards, its like the factory wanted it in there.
