hey i just this past saturday bought a 94 gt, 5 speed. I bought it for 2300, 2500 out the door with fees and such.

I'm getting the car perfect for when i get the title [hopefully it comes tommorow, they said 2-3 days].

So I have a couple questions.

I have a oil leak somewhere, tommorow i'm going to clean up the engine bay and try and find out where its coming from, My dad says he thinks its the intake manifold. So we were going to see if it was, and if so, get a new gasket for it. What are some common areas that there could be a leak? I know when my brother pulled into the driveway, smoke was coming from off the headers from oil dripping onto them.

I'm going to buy a new thermostat, a new lower intake gasket, a couple light bulbs, some spark plugs new oil and filter and some antifreeze. Is there anything else I should pick up?

Also, when we first got in the car, the front end was all over the place, but the front right tire was almost flat and the front left had 9 psi. I have put new tires and rims on it, [saw them on the side of the road, 2006 mustang rims [bullitt style] with brand new parelli tires for 500 bucks] I'm hoping it just needs an alignment, but any common issues with the front end that i should worry about?

The clutch is in decent condition, the throwout bearing is making a noise, so when i go to replace the throwout bearing, i'll replace the clutch and pressure plate and such too.

Thanks.

Here is a few things u can do...i would deffenetly cleam the maf

alright i'll have to do that tommorow. thanks for the link

also, does anyone know how to get rid of the code for the battery being disconnected for a period of time? its the airbag blinking 5 times, then stops, then 2 times, then stops, and then starts over again.

I think, if you disconnect the battery for 10+ minutes, then connect it again and let your car run, without touching the gas pedal, the computer will reset itself. If you plan on cleaning your MAF, do this while the battery is disconnected and kill two birds with one stone.

To clear the airbag code, you have to do it via the airbag diagnostic plug. It's a gray connector with 2 wires located under the glove box closer to the center console.

1. Cycle the ignition switch to OFF and then to RUN.

2. Observe air bag indicator prove-out (six ± two seconds) followed by diagnostic trouble code (52-85) flashing completely one time.

3. Locate the Diagnostic "Trouble Code Clear" Connector located underneath the glove compartment (06010) containing Circuits 631 (T/R) and 57 (BK).

4. Use a jumper wire to short Circuit 631 (T/R) to Circuit 57 (BK) or to another good ground. This short must be made after the diagnostic trouble code flashes completely one time, but before the warning light stays on continuously.

5. Hold short until air bag diagnostic monitor tone sounds (approximately five seconds).

6. Release short on Circuit 631 (T/R) to Circuit 57 (BK). This short must be released within 25 seconds after the diagnostic monitor tone sounds.

Diagnostic trouble code is now cleared from NVRAM. Next highest priority diagnostic trouble code stored in NVRAM (if one exists) will begin flashing.

Prove-out is when the light first comes on when you turn on the ignition.

It is very common on the 5. 0 for the rear intake seal to leak which gets oil down the back of the motor and on the bellhousing. Its also very common for the valve cover gaskets to leak. Your best bet if replacing htose is stay away from cork and get some from the Explorers or Mountaineers with 5.0s. They have a nice reusable valve cover gasket thats pretty much steel encased in rubber. Used them on my 88 and never had another oil leak again. As for an airbag light it wont clear until the problem causing it is fixed. It cant be cleared and stay off if the problem is still there.
And dont 06 rims have a different lug pattern? Might be wrong but I thought they werent compatible after the new model in 05.

they bolted right up. I thought it had a different pattern too but they worked great and are on there now.

and the airbag light from what i read is from the battery being disconnected for a period of time, what would i have to do just let the car run for a little bit?

I looked and the right valve cover is leaking. the back of the intake is bone dry. the left valve cover is bone dry. I am going to see what im going to do. because I was hoping to drive this car tomorrow. but don't see it happening for a week or so now. :notnice: :bang:

It sucks seeing such a gorgeous car just sitting in the driveway. wanting me to drive it.

My dad said he also thinks that the oils leaking from the washer on the drain plug. So we'll see. I'm just really bent out of shape right now about not being able to drive this car even longer.

Hey, you wouldnt be the first person to drive a stang around with an oil leak. I took mine back and forth from college every day having to add oil every day. As far as the airbag light, trust me on this one, you can have the battery disconnected for forty years and as long as there are no hard faults detected in the air bag system, the light will prove out and go off. I deal with 99 percent of the electrical problems at my dealership. Youll have to pull the codes yourself or have a shop do it and then figure it out from there. If you just bought it, its not uncommon for the airbags to be completely missing behind the covers (wreck, stolen, sold, etc) So Id definitely get the code pulled and if you let me know the code I can give you some Ford Pinpoint tests to diag it. I walked someone through their abs code and theyre good to go now with no light.:nice:
Just to double check, are you saying the light is on with engine running? Or just on with key on engine off?

well, its on when its running also, but i havent had it run for a long period of time, because i haven't gotten a chance to find the leak.

also, my anti lock light is on now.

and my dads obd scanner isn't working with my car, any ideas of why it wouldn't?

stop posting on here then and get your butt out there and fix it :D

hah. im not the most handy person right now, i'm completing my second year of autobody tech school, i can go out and work in this field if i want to right now. i plan on going for 2 years of automotive tech school though, so i can learn some more under the hood stuff. so i mainly need to be guided by my brother or dad. some things i can do on my own, simple things so far. hardest thing i've done is replace the clutch in my current car.

although every second my dad or my brother are willing to help me with something i'm willing to work on the car.

i have it all fixed for the most part, just need to find out why the anti lock light is on, and the air bag light is on maybe find a way to clear them for inspection, which i have to go to soon as i get the title in the mail.

this car runs great though, i don't think its the stock engine.

Sent you a pm with a question.

Your Dad's OBDII scanner won't work with the connector under the dash. The GT & Cobra are OBDI cars - the connector under the dash doesn't work.

Ford used the same dash & wiring for the V6 cars as well, which are OBDII. That's why the useless connector is there on the GT's & Cobras. The OBDI scanner hookup is two connectors behind the passenger shock tower. You'll need a new code reader.

The Anti-Lock light will blink just like the Airbag light and Check Engine light. Count the blinks.

vp6799 has it right. Bend a paper clip so it easily touches the two prongs in the connector. Turn the ignition on, but don't start the engine. When you see the Airbag light start to blink, push the paper clip in to the connector. You should hear a audible tone, it's hard to miss. When you heat that, pull the paper clip out; the tone should stop. That clears code 52.

ah, i didnt realize that, thanks for telling me. I don't know if my dad has an OBD1 scanner, he may [he was an autotech for like 30 years]

the anti lock light goes out if i let the car run for a minute. it comes back on at start up, but from what i see, it doesn't stay on or blink.

I just need it to pass inspection. I tried the paper clip thing, and no luck. i'll have to try again later, its raining like a bitch out and I don't wanna get frustrated if i can't get it to work cause its probably something simple.

If my dad has a OBDI scanner can that just clear the code?

also, another problem i've encountered, don't know how common this is, but when i turn the lights on while the cars running, my clock goes out. like, pitch black, I know on my thunderbird it fades, but this goes completely out.

alright, fixed the airbag light, and the anti lock light.

i called the guy from the dealership i bought it from, and the place that mails the titles closed for the day. so if its not already mailed out, it wont be till monday. which i will be extremely pissed.

if its not in the mail today, which we didnt get yet, i'm going to ask how much temp tags would cost, so i can drive it until they mail me the title and etc. tomorrow is a week that the car has sat. i didn't spend 2500 for a fancy lawn ornament.

I don't know how the inspection is in your state. But in Mass they can't fail you for the ABS light being on. You should check the inspection rules for your state. you might be suprised on what you find. I was with Mass rules. There is "ALOT" of things they can't fail you on.

I have a feeling the stang should pass inspection now, I got the airbag light cleared, and the anti lock light went off after i went around the block with it and it went right out after i got it on a flat surface [ my driveways kinda angled]

hm i'll have to look for the inspection rules in my state. sounds like an interesting read.

kinda frustrated with the dealer. the title still hasn't come, so that means monday will be the earliest i could get it registered and inspected and insured and etc.
