im looking to buy a centerforce dual friction clutch for a stock 1988 5.0 lx and i dont know how many splines are on the input shaft or if anybody has a part number that would greatly help thanks
Assuming OEM tranny and not one from a Cobra, SVO, Modular or other aftermarket, it should be a 10-spline shaft. Check part number CTF-DF021048. Hope this helps. BTW, great selection....that's what I've used for yrs.
Great clutch. When set up properly, pedal effort is very light. And yes, as already stated, it's a 10 spline clutch. It would be a 26 spline if you have a TKO, TKO 600, or T56.
IMO, a CF dual friction is way overkill for a stock 5.0, even if it is a great clutch. I had one once, and for the price, it wasn't worth it for the power a stock engine produces.
It's nice to have a clutch that can stand up to multiple upgrades though... I mean over time, all mustangs get modded. Why not go with a good clutch the first time? Once we start blowing up transmissions, well, then it will be time to step up to a different transmission, but for now this is the best way to go.
