I'm in the process of putting a new top on my 97GT Conv. My questions are how much is it to have somebody install it? From a dealer? Mechanic?

My other question is that if I had another person help me do the installation is it installable by two people that don't really know what their doing without the directions?

Should i even bother installing or just let the pro's do it?

I don't know prices wherever you live, but in the Washington DC area, a quality top installed correctly would run you about $1000-$1400.

I think you'd out real quick it's a job best left to the pros. Plus, if a pro installs it, you have a warranty if you do run into a problem.

I've heard that tops, like gears, are usually better left to the pros. You want it done right, esp. something so integral as the top to your car.

If you do it by yourself, I've heard have a couple of friends on hand to help...makes sense.

Best of luck!

I have bought new vinyl for my top, i am getting the back piece w/ the window soon. I am curious to know as well, if you can install the top yourself. I need to rebuild one of my latches too.

leave it to the pros. if you dont know what your doing, the top can easily become wrinkled and not fit correctly. My dad and i were trying to figure out if we should attempt replacing the top on his 66 stang, but decided to let the pros do it. Looks great and only cost about $600 for install

A good body shop could install it. Make a few phone calls and get about 3-4 estimates from a body shop. Then call a Ford Service Department and see if the numbers compare.
