Those things pretty fun to drive. they feel like an 4cyl. accord and then the turbo spools and kicks in and the whole front end lifts. the instant burst of power from a turbo is quite fun. but I'll still take a mustang over an eclipse any day.

not sure what your referring to, but people on here say their "beater car" is what they drive to work/school. my mustang is my beater car... unless i missed something, nobody was saying that those cars suck...

anyways, cool car man, i like eclipses

I love it when somone has major problems with a type of car and then conclude that all cars of this type are bad. On another note, theres nothing wrong with modifying the daily driver, especially if money is not a factor. IMHO its more efficient to have one fast car and one average car, rather then two mediocrely fast cars

I have previously owned a 95 talon tsi awd (same thing as a gsx) and have stated many times that i think it was an awesome car, great gas mileage, AWD, extremely fast with the mods I had, would absolutely kill the mustang I have now, handled exceptionally, and I wish I never sold it. I just bought a jeep within the past week cause my stang has been in the shop for 13 out of the 16 weeks of the semester of my senior year, and my opinion of mustangs has decreased dramatically as you can imagine, considering I have spent thousands on the car and it still never runs right. I guess my friends were right when they talked about fords prior to my purchase. Anyway, I disagree with anyone who has anything negative to say about the dsm awd turbo cars, I think they are mint, and put money into it if you want, why not have two fast cars? The gsx will be a great daily driver modded or not, and modding does not require stickers, and it also does not require your entire bank account......

What's wrong with it?

You barely have any worthwhile go fast mods done, looks like more show/sound. Invest in some motor mods and you'll be much happier with it.

I don't hate on a car because its a DSM, I hate on a car because it has a huge fart can, giant wing, 18" wheels, lowered and scraping the ground, and claiming he can whoop my ass when he's got an N/A 4 cylinder in there because his car is "Mad light yo". Its never necessarily just a DSM, could be anything.

Im with him, that car is NOT a beater. A beater is like a late-80's minivan or a 1985 Ford Fiesta(what im looking for), or like beat up Civics.

Yea my 95 was the same color, it almost has a hint of purple in it. The color seems kinda rare, I never see any around here with the same paint job, even though it must be factory. Now this guy has taken the opposite route and modded the talon and daily drives the stang. Either way they're two nice cars, assuming they run fine for ya.
My mustang had all sorts of electrical problems. It started stalling WHILE DRIVING, and I almost got killed on an off ramp (stalled, power steering goes, brakes, etc.....). Then after it stalled it wouldnt start up again until the battery was almost dead. I brought it to a race shop in rhode island that works only on mustangs, as no other mechanic could fix it. Even after I got it back, and I'm talking 8 or 9 weeks, it started bucking, and barely accelerating. It was even at a Ford dealer and they were at a loss. Anyway I just got it back again this past week but the jeep is on the road now, so I'm gonna let the stang sit and try again next spring, possibly make sure its fine and sell it to get a cobra..... or a dsm..... I cant see putting more money into a GT that now has over 100k on it, but I don't want to sell it until I trust it will be fine. Oh and prior problems: On the way back from Myrtle Beach the rear end locked up on the highway in New Jersey. That was also quite fun and expensive. I dont beat on it, but maybe the guy before me did I dont know. He seemed like a good guy though.

Damn man, I really can't blame ya. That's a lot of problems. If mine did that, I'd probably get rid of it for a Cobra too.

Dude that sucks, I love my cobra and my DSM both r fun I finally raced them sat. Morning and the DSM got me off the start, shifted to 2nd in the cobra and broke the tires loose again "ugh" then caught again around 42 and pulled back up with him went in to 3rd and then started to go in to 4th and saw he was back about 8 cars so I let off .

Shift points for my cobra at MPH hmm why... 1st - 2nd at 35-37
2nd - 3rd at 67-68
3rd - 4th at102-103

Just to say that the GSX kicks my Cobras butt off the start but once I catch it is screwed so far I have gauges intake and down pipe on the Eclipse more to come but I got to go back to work on the cobra need to get back to my BaBy = Cobra
I cant wait to get cat back and another x-pipe for it. Well guys I will get the video camera out this weekend and tape me racing the eclipse and racing my friends 2001TransAM WS6 AUTO we r always a good match I normally get him from 0 -20 then he get me from 20 to 60 after that I can normally pull about a car on him to 120mph then we stop but its cold here and the cars love that cold air Allot. Well every one have a good x-mas later all.

Man, I beat a GSX with intake and exhaust in my wifes Infiniti I30 (heavy Maxima). He was in a lane that had to merge about 1/4 mile up, and I figured I'd make him earn it. By the time I got to 15mph I was back even with him, and started pulling away at around 55. He gave up, and got behind me at around 80. It sounds like you need to learn how to launch your Cobra. I would use it for what you bought it for (DD), and not use too much money on it. My brother has had three turbo Mitsu's with nothing but problems, and he doesn't even try to make them faster. He's a "bling blinger". Good luck with whatever you decide.

not into the whole ricer thing..4 bangers in my humble opinion should be kept as commuter cars as they were origianlly intended...that looks like a sweet DD but I agree with many on here keep the mod money for the cobra it has so much more potential...but again it is your money whatever makes you happy is what you should do...don't care so much what others think if you wanna mod your dd go for it but my opinion is a dd isn't meant for modding it is meant for getting from a to b..to each his own I guess..

lol this happens to me quite frequently on accident. I will need to get over to the middle lane fast after the stoplight and somone else will need to get over to the right lane.

Pal I hate to tell you this but GSX will always win off the line also from 95 to 99 they have a T25 Turbo fast spooling little thing and they are AWD u can knock those to about 3500rpms then let it rip and get and its gone off the start like nothing else ok cobra yes its fast off the line but its not awd so I would hope the eclipse would get me off the line or it would have some problems before u judge an import make sure u know the facts as for u passing it around 55 I can understand that cause of the t25's r so small they don't spoll up on top end till u get intake and UICP till then they suck on top end also the stock bov on them is plastic and not good for over 14 psi they start to leak boost witch hertz u allot. I am not try to pick on my cobra but I know that most of us don't stand a chance against something like that off the start when these cars get 60ft's in the 1.7 and so on that's damn good pal. any ways thanks guys for the complements on the car I still love the cobra more.....

I didn't say that your Cobra should beat the Eclipse off the line, obviously it will not. I'm saying that not being able to catch it until your half way through second is rediculous. I also said nothing about "passing it" at 55, that is when the car I was in (99 Infiniti I30) started pulling away. I was back even before I shifted out of first. I actually do know what I am talking about. Imports aren't some magical thing that you have to know about to understand. A car is a car. I have had all kinds. I'm not one of those that will tell you a car sucks because it is Japanese. Like I said before, I was in an Infiniti.

Cool dude, I never said NOT to street race, hell I do it all the time. But racing and forcing someone off the road cause you want to be first in that lane sounds pretty retarded to me. Oh and its defiinitly cool to street race in your wifes maxima.

It all depends on the cars set up. I know of auto Maximas laying down 1.9 60's and 5-speeds that lay down 1.7s.
