Hello, I have a few questions. I need a new engine and have a few possibilities. One being just to buy a rebuilt from ford which will run me about $1200, or building a fresh motor myself reusing my block and getting new internals. Basically, I'm on a budget and want to do this right the first time, although I want to spend as least as possible to do this, but sacrificing a few bucks here and there for more reliability or performance is OK. The car will be used as a daily driver. Does anyone have any ideas or comments on what road they would take as well as possible rotating assemblys? Also what components are used from the PAW engine company, are they Ford parts or generic? Also would you recommend using them or any other such as the summit kit? I have GT-40 heads, ported stock upper and lower(blah) and a few other basic mods, full exhaust, 3.73's. Also what cam would you recommend, I have a b-cam in now with about 30K on it, would it be ok to reuse or should I buy another or something different, again dont need a custom grind, just looking for affordability, reliability and some performance (arent we all). Sorry for the long post but pulled engine yesterday and now i need some ideas. Thanks

i just bought a re-build kit from summit for like 250 to my door. i am re-useing everything inside buying a new rotateing assemble etc.... would be a waste of money you shouldnt even need to get it turned. of course i am blowing mine with the vortech i have on the floor next to me but i also have a custom cam on the way. and i am very happy with the stuff i got in the rebuild kit as well. since the piston heads are already forged i just kept those too.I am pulling mine tom Just got done with the horrible rats nest of wires (behind intake)today and most all of them were marked from the original owner. and the one's that wernt i will have to figure out later lol. good luck!

Cheaper to have your engine rebuilt than to buy a rebuilt one in most cases. I've been quoted $1500 to have mine rebuilt. A decent rebuilt is gonna cost ya $1300 and then about the same amount more for labor.

The crank won't budge, well balancer broke off of crankshaft, timing cover broke as well as the chain itself, we tried bump starting it and the crank wouldnt move, could it have cracked or ceased maybe? I Dont know but pretty sure I need a crank either way, I'll find out more on Friday or Saturday when I get the whole thing apart, just figured if I'm gonna replace the crank anyway might as well replace all the internals as they have about 110K on 'em.

sounds like it ceased up on you did your oil pump go out on you? i know you didnt run it outa oil(atleast i hop) just because it ceased doesnt mean you need a new crank. with the money you have already i would do a 306 stroker kit for 900(if you plan to re-use all the stock junk) from dss it will also allow you to have enough money to buy a complete gasket kit as well.

So if the crank is still good can i just have it turned .010/.010 and get new rods and pistons? is that even worth it assuming the crank is still ok?

ok here. my 306 rebuild with fresh everything including pistons, had crank ground, all new bearings blah blah block decked... i really dont want to go through the list. generally, anything above 90k miles will need to be punched out to a 306, so you need new pistons, crank is reuseable but grind it (profressionally) have the rods reconditioned, a good quality build minus headwork will run you around 1100 built to lower, but , i would either get new heads or flatten the ones you have , get a valve job and fresh them up, but you dont have to if you want. If you want to do it half ass, do it half ass. But with the way i think and operate, i have everything done right, and i go to sleep easier at night... good luck
