new engine install - angle wrong?

Just installed my freshly rebuilt engine, with new vert motor mounts. Everything looks like its sitting in the right way,studs from the mounts going through the k member correctly, however the rear of the engine is really sitting lower than the front. I woud say 4 or 5 degrees. I can jack up the back of the tranny (t-5) and that helps a little, but would it be smart to add spacers?

I'm not sure, but everything looks weired. will try and post a pic,but any input on the correct angle of the engine would be appreciated.

Would the vert mounts make it do this?

Is it a vert? Don't jack up the tranny or space it, you will change the pinion angle on the driveshaft. It is supposed to be higher in front- but if you think the tranny is lower than it should be, replace the tranny mount too. It's a good idea to do it at the same time as the engine mounts for this reason- Stick cars are really hard on the stock rubber tranny mount, it's probably worn out, broken, or both. Wouldn't become as evident until you do the engine mounts, particularly if you used poly ones.

I do have a new poly mount on the transmission.

THe enigine sits much lower than before, but it just seems the rear of the engine is sitting much lower than the front. Is it reallthat noticable? I dont have the intake on it yet, but I know before I pulled and rebuilt the engine, everyting was fairly level...

It's not a vert is it? I'm not sure what the diference is (didn't think there were vert specific mounts), but if there are- and if it isn't a vert and you have the wrong ones, it may be the problem. However, I really don't think they are different- I think you may be remembering it wrong, there is a good angle on the engine. You don't know anyone else with a 5.0 you can pop the hood and check out? It does look different when you put the intake on too, but not so much that you'd be thinking it was wrong before you did I don't think.

Oh, one way you can check is to put the fan on and check the clearance on the fan shroud.

The vert mounts lower the motor approximently 3/4", the rear of the motor sits lower the the front.

Heres a pic of the engine with spacers in the trans mount. And a pic of soem washers I used for spacers to get the engine at the angle it is in the last pic...

if I remove the spacers it makes the rear of the engine 5 degees lower than the front...

has anyone else seen/run into this?

my engine before did the same thing, but i had two completely busted (most of rubber missing) motor and tranny mounts, i just installed all new polyurethane mounts motor/tranny, i will see if it does the same thing

The rear of the motor is supposed to be lower, I'd take out the spacer and put it all back together, you have nothing that is not normal.

Without the spacers, the back of the engine sits 5 degrees lower than the front...

I guess if I go to drive it and it doesn't go anywhere, and make a horrible grinding noise, I'll know why

I just picked up some convertable mounts myself. I heard they were they way to go if I needed new motor mounts. I am working on the trusty ol 5.0L swap.

luvmy88- how did you mark all your hoses? was it easy puting it all back together?

Taped and marked most wires. The tricky part for me is eliminating the right wires, because I've removed the smog and a/c equipment.

I still don't feel right about how this looks. The intake is on , and it has a noticable slant in the back.

Maybe my trans crossmember is bent? Or installed the wrong direction?

It doesn't look bent, or at least bent enough to even come close to making a difference. Can you install this crossmember backwards?

sorry, I know I was told its suppsed to look this way, but damn, this is different...

Dude it supposed to lean back like that. If it was leaning back to far, your fan would be rubbing the fan shrowd, there isn't much space in there.
