after getting a fresh set of gears put in, should you change the fluid after so many miles..i never hear of anyone doing it from the factory so should you do it after a new set is put in???

People forget that after your new ring and pinion breaks in
it leaves small peices of metal in your differential fluid and on
your magnetic rear end drain plug their will be very small peices
of metal on the magnetic part of the rear end drain plug.
I would change it with some Royal Purple gear oil.
I belive that 75W140 gear oil is what to use in your rear end.

It cannot hurt to change but you dont need to. Look at your ownes manual and change the fluid at the intervals recomended by them. Also if you do change the fluid you might have to add some friction modifier to it. I know the 99's call for it.

When you buy a new car straight off the lot....do they tell you to come in 500 miles later and have the rear end oil change?

didn't think so

Don't worry about changing the gear oil after a gear install. HOWEVER you should change the gear oil every 20k miles if you want your clutch pack in the rear to stay in good standing
