I just had a new ring and pinion installed. I got the 3rd member back from the speed shop, put it back together, and went for a drive.
I now notice a low whine/roar at low speeds (i.e. slowing for a light.) Is this a big deal as I have no problems otherwise.

What gives??

what gear did you have put in? A taller gear (numerically higher) may wind a bit.
i have 4.11's and they don't wind... if the backlash isn't set right it will make a noise. i would take it to the shop, take them for a drive and have them re-do it.

Hey are indeed Richmond gears. I bought them from a Nascar team that opted not to use them.

THis could account for the noise I suppose?? (Being a heavy duty set)

Any thoughts? TIA

Well thanks for all your input. I guess I'll drive, and hope the break-in period quites them some. If not, oh well I have very little $$ in the gear swap. I can live with a little whine. Thanks for all your input.

I also have 4.11 richmond. No whine. They are probably set too tight. You know all the movies with air raid sirens? It's a set of gears that are set very tight with a bull horn infront. Just my 2 cents.
